Custom Exhaust Traps

When Sixpipes requests something, s**t happens!
The little black mark at the base of the restrictor is my felt tip pen. The 1.75 stamped into the plate is the diameter of that plate. If I understood Randy correctly, that diameter converts to 2.405 square inches times two exhausts = 4.810 SI. That is what I had with the old system. Before I closed it down, with the new system I had a diameter of 2.500 which equals 4.907 SI times two which equals 9.814 square inches. Some where between 4.810 and 9.814 square inches, I lost the RWHP!

Hey Flats Man,
From that pic, it looks like you are running Goodyear Eagle GT-II's on the rear axle. I have problems getting traction even on dry pavement with mine. Have you considered some stickier rubber? I have 275/60's on stock 17" sport wheels, and they break loose too easy. Hows your traction??,,,,,98

I'd love to see it launch with some decent tires Once I get a decent set of tires, I'll have to keep some of these for burnouts at the Heatwave:-) Of course I need to get gears and a posi before that can happen. Man I am SO far behind on speed mods it's sad,,,,,98
You could always ice down your intake tube

Very nice! What paint did you use? Does it have the flex agent in it for vinyl and where did you get it? I am working on a Ground effects kit for my truck right now and I may paint it my self. My Tex in march comment was to let my Brother know I will be driving out there after FFW. I will be bringing my Car instead of the Truck this time.

I used the spray bomb method I buzzed the grain off with 320 and a dual action sander(DA) Shot it with primer, then the color, then three coats of clear. All the paint was plast-cote products, and no flex agent. I have to shoot it again today, because of the color being wrong (wrong cap at the store ) This pic shows the cap, and what color it was supposed to be. Do you have all the equipment to paint the ground effects?,,,,,98

No, I don't really have the equipment to paint the stuff so I will probably have it done.
I went to the dyno today and played with the exhaust traps. To me it was very interesting! With the 9 lb pulley and my new opened up exhaust, no exhaust trap at all, I put out 282 RWHP and 315 lbs of torque. I put on the 1.75 restrictor plates and ran a 280.3 RWHP @328.1 lb of torque. The next larger plate was a 1.875 and I ran a 283.8 @ 327.0 lbs of torque. The last plate was a 2.000 which was the least restrictive that I had, and I ran a 286.8 @ 322.4 lbs of torque!
These little motors are real touchy about back pressure. My findings are that if you open the exhaust up you will loose torque but gain HP and if you close it down you will gain torque and loose HP.

Wish I was there, I'd paint them for a couple of German beers VERY interesting with the dyno testing results! I'm using your findings to figure out what to do with my next exhaust. I have dual 2 1/4" pipes, and I'm wondering if I should go with something smaller next time. Maybe going back to a Y, and using a SI/DO Magnaflow muffler would be the best?.....98
Here's my exhaust cutouts, It looks SO much better with the tips raised. I'm going to raise the pass. side tip tomorrow
