4.2 Exaust
#3
I had Gibson exhaust on my 97 4.2, I thought it sounded like crap, like an outboard motor. I spent between $200 - $300 for it and would never do it again.
I now have an 01 4.2 and the only way I will put any exhaust on it would be to hear an exhaust on someone elses 4.2 to see if I really like it.

As I stated in my last post I had the Gibson Supertruck where it exited out the side of my 97 4.2 but I thought it sounded really bad.
You say you have the same setup except you have it out the back. My question is how did you like the sound out the side compared to what you have now dual out the back? I had just single out the right side before so maybe a big difference in sound. I'd love to have a nice sounding truck but like I said my last setup on my 97 4.2 just didnt do it for me so I don't want to do anything to my 01 4.2 until I hear it for myself on someone elses truck.

sorry for taking so long to reply. but to answere you question:
i thought it was too loud. i had too much resonance in the cab for my taste. now with it out the back it is alot more mellow with zero resonance. i can still totally tell its there....just mellow. it worked out really good for me. it was the tone i was shooting for.
my advice to you is not to give up on aftermarket exhausts. if it is a financial thing then i totally understand. if not, i am sure you can find something you like. just do some research. and even if you don't like it you can always modify it as i did. good luck with your exhaust!!

I have a regular Flowmaster 40 (non-delta-flow) si/do muffler on my pick-up. It exits out the rear like a dual exhaust. Sounds like a v8 at idle. But you can tell it's a v6 when you rev on it while it's sitting still. But when you go down the road in it, it sounds more like a v8. Oh yeah, It's pretty loud thanks to the 3-1/2" x 18" tips. Not to loud in the cab at highway speeds though.
