Extended Warranty? Yes or No?

I currently have my 2000 Navi in service for a few minor things. I am at about 48000 miles, and the warranty will expire at 50,000.

Do you think it's worth it to purchase an extended warranty? I plan on having her for at least another 4 years or more, and although my hubby can do a lot of things under the hood, he is worried about the things he won't be able to fix.

How many of you have the extended warranty? Are you happy you bought it?

I bought the truck used, so I have no idea on the history of it.

Ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

If it was me I'd put the warranty money ($1200) towards current maintenance items and upgrades. Especially fluid changes.
Oil, Antifreeze, transmission, rear end, brake & power steering fluids, etc.

All my fluids are fresh. I even bought a new air filter for her, but it had a new one on it already!

I always change my miles at excatly 3000, with Mobil1, and we check the fluids every other oil change.

I am not worried about the little stuff like that...I am more worried about the engine, tranny, etc that my hubby can't fix on his own. He is very mechanical, especially with FORD motors, but I don't expect him to do the major stuff that could go wrong.

I guess I am asking current owners of Navi's...older years like mine, if they have had any major problems that might happen to me.

Thanks for your input!

Mines a 98 Navi, and it's got about 91000 miles on it now. I've put on about 20000 of that and haven't had any problems yet. They tried to sell me the extended warranty when I bought the thing, but I just figured if something went wrong I was just take the money I would have spent on the warranty and do some major upgrading.

It's a crapshoot....personally I'd NEVER buy a vehicle without ESP here's why:

96 Windstar: 3 Transaxles
99 Expy: rebuilt transmission @35K, replace #4coil pack, new tie rod ends, new roof rack, new leather front seats, new rear wiper motor, new 6cd changer, new multi stalk.....now 53K on it.
99 Explorer: Rebuilt transmission @ 52K, new a/c evaporator, replace both rear axle bearings & assemblies, replace upper block gaskets, replace multi stalk, replace rear wiper motor.....traded it in for a 4 Runner Limited @ 52.5K

Believe me, it's paid for itself many times, also considering I get a rental for the overnights.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

My hubby and I looked over each of the 4 plans ESP offers, and boy did we get a good laugh out of it!!

After seriously considering each item, we decided it was a waste of $$ to purchase any of them. My hubby knows what he can and cannot fix, and the things he was mainly concerned with aren't even on the list!!!

I will just wait it out, and hope for the best
