The bigger question is can you find that particular 2003 at this point in the game. Production has stopped and they're doing the 2004s...

I know of a guy that is searching for a 2003 EB Expy and is having MEGA problems finding one. The incentives have been REALLY good for a while now thus, they're few and far...

Good luck... looks like a helluva nice ride!

I traded my '02 F150 on my '03 Expy about 5 weeks ago. I searched within a 200 mile radius to find just a few Expy's that matched my criteria. I imagine it is getting harder and harder to find them. So if you are going to do it, now is the time.

As far as problems, I did have the rear pinion seal replaced due to a small drip from the rear diff. It was warranty work and I only lost the use of the truck for a day. I am confident in the truck for the most part. It has the same engine, tran, etc as the old Expys and F150s so I think most any other problem should be minor. In fact, the engine runs smoother and the transmission shifts better than my F150! I don't know why, but it does.

F150Y2K,

I'm the guy RockPick mentioned. I can tell you I've been looking and asking for over two weeks. I found a dozen trucks in my area (300 mile radius) that I would consider buying but when my dealer called them they almost everyone was already sold. To do a search in your state, go to www.forddirect.com, put in your zip code and build your truck. Go to another website called www.CACarDealers.com and pick Ford dealers in California. With all the zip codes, you can search every Ford dealer in your state one by one and it's a total PIA but you can see their inventory. Problem is there website accessible inventory is not updated daily so it's usually not accurate. A phone call to the dealer is your only shot if you're doing it alone. The other problem is when a dealer trades vehicles, the first dealer usually wants to keep the holdback money. When there's no holdback money for the selling dealer and you, there's no room for negotiations below invoice and invoice means there's no profit for the selling dealer, this makes your purchase price higher.

Anyway, good luck with your searching and let me know if I can help. I've gotten pretty proficient at finding trucks this way. The hard part is finding them in stock when the internet inventory shows it's available. I did get an EB Expy like I wanted but now I'm working out the bugs with my dealer as the truck they found was loaded with under the chassis corrosion that I spotted while doing an inspection before I signed the papers. Look close... The other thing is learn the serial numbers, an A in the 6th digit from the end is late '02 production, a B is early '03 and a C is mid '03. Shoot for a C in the 6th digit from the end of the serial number. The last 5 digits are the sequence number of how many units have been built in the A, B or C series. I hope that helps you.

Later,

~DM~

F150Y2K,

I looked at the Ford dealer in your area and here's the incentives that Ford claims applies:

http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/exp...r=03&zip=90280

Is it possible that you read the offer wrong? It looks as if Ford is offering $4000 off price or $2000 off with low interest or 72 months 0% interest. BTW, zero percent interest beats all the deals hands down no matter how you figure it.

If Ford is giving you $6000 off, then what's the reason? I've been loyall to Ford since '99 and they didn't give me anything except a firm kick in the **** and crappy trade in amounts.

Later,

~DM~

F150,

Isn't it also true that if you opt for the cash rebates that you must finance through Ford Motor Credit? If that's the case then you'd have to finance at 4.9% up to 72mo? The deal on your list doesn't say anything about zero percent interest with the cash and so I'm just wondering how that works. I'm getting ready to close a deal by the end of the month and this info will be very helpful in saving me a buck or two.

Thanks in advance.

NOT WITH LINCOLN

I was on Lincoln's website and they have the 0% financing for 72 months. Besides, if you have ***** of Gold Credit, you CAN GET the 0%. That's determined by salesman. Many times the salesman gets paid also on how the rate they give you. Find a car salesman or manager that's a real FRIEND who can tell you the truth.

I'm not too crazy about an expedition especially with the bugs they have and the Navigator is waaaay too expensive right now. I would have to make up my mind by Sept 31 and that's too soon right now. I'm just too attached to my ride and it has NEVER given me any problems, so I think I'm gonna stick it out for now. But GOOD LUCK with your purchase and here's an early CONGRATULATIONS!

FYI. A Salesman has absolutely nothing to do with FMC buying your paper. The extent of their involvment may be getting a credit app filled out. FMC scores, qualifies and buys your deal. In most cases thats done by computer in a matter of seconds.

'03 XLTs - Expeditions

I could not find any XLTs around my area except for one. There were some value pkg and eddie burers, but didn't like either. I just got the last XLT in the area yesterday, $6000 off, plus another $4800 from X plan.

Seems like a good deal, but they are going fast, even folks w/o X plan are grabbing them. Jer

Well, if anybody's looking-

I snagged the last 2003 Expedition EB off the lot this morning. Black, power 3rd row, 5.4L, etc....

I'm still not 100% sold on it yet. As I sat in my Double-Oh, then sit in the Double-oh-Three, I don't see a huge gain in equipment.

Granted, the ergonomics are nicer in the 03, but the 00 feel roomier. The 6-disc in dash is cool, and the stereo is way better- but that's all relative.

I guess the only thing I'm really gaining is:

1.) 5.4L over current 4.6L (I don't feel a difference, but OK)
2.) Memory seating & pedals (Cool)
3.) Power-fold 3rd row (Really cool)
4.) Rear vent windows (Zzzzz)
5.) Stereo & AC controls on the wheel (Zzzzz)
6.) Homelink garage door opener (Cool, but Zzzzz)
7.) Middle seat slides forward (Little one coming)

Is that really worth taking the plunge again for?

Man, I really want a Mercury Marauder, but wifey wants the 03 Expy. I'm getting a darn good deal. Expy EB MSRP $39,820, addendum (Pin striping & door guards ) $40,620.

I flat-out told 'em I wasn't paying for any door bump guards (Which I see nothing on the door other than the cladding that comes on all Eddie Bauers), not paying for any Fancy-Dan pin-stripping either. So, I'm back at $39,820.

X-Plan - $34,000
Rebate- $ 5,000
_____________
Out the door, Eddie Bauer: $29,000.

(That's a better deal than I got on my 2000 Expedition XLT Sport- I got it for $30,000, down from $37,000) What's worse, I have a buddy that bought a Ford Explorer XLT earlier in 2003- and paid $27,000.00~ Timing is everything!

I haven't committed to it yet. After running a CR on me, and haggling over a monthly payment- they decided to let me drive it home while I made up my mind- to "Prevent anyone else from buying it from under me".

It rides far better than mine does, and I love the huge mirrors- but those 17's got to go..... Gotta get at LEAST soem 20's- if I get it.

My 2000 Expedition is the FIRST vehicle I DIDN'T want and Don't want to get rid of. If I could afford to keep my 00 and buy the 03, there'd be no question- or doubt. I'd jump right on it- I'd have taken it today. Absolutely nothing's wrong with it, no problems, it still looks good- it's almost paid for.... Man, decisions-decisions.......

I DIDN'T END UP GETTING ONE....TOO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE 03s.

I DECIDED TO JUST USE THE $5000 (APPROX) I WAS GONNA PUT DOWN TO PUT INTO MY TRUCK AND SAVE SOME ON THE SIDE FOR A RAINY DAY OR ANY NEW MOD THAT COMES AROUND.

I'VE LEARNED AAAAA LLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOTTTTTT SINCE I BOUGHT MY 2000 F-150 AND PROMISED MYSELF THAT MY NEXT CAR WAS GONNA BE SOMETHING I REALLY REALLY WANTED.

DOESN'T SOUND LIKE YOUR SOLD ON IT......MAKE A LIST OF THE PROs AND CONs AND SPEAK TO MORE 03 OWNERS.

CAN YOU POST PICS OF WHAT'S IN YOUR DRIVEWAY RIGHT NOW?

If the economy keeps improving, new car pricing this low may go the way of the interest rates as of late.. up and up.

That's an awesome price for an EB. Are you getting 0% for 60 mo. on top of the 5k?

I'd say go for it. I looked at a 2001 used Navigator with low miles for 30k. Just some perspective.

Good luck!

I got it-

Once we get a solid dry day here, I'll clean it up & snap it.

I ended up getting the Eddie Bauer. None of the 03 XLT's had the essentials- (Leather, AM/FM/CD/Cassette, Powerfold, turn signl mirrors, etc..)

I didn't get the $5,000- those So & SO's wouldn't do both when I got in the FM's office.

I did some wheelin & dealing, and just as I was about to leave- they met my request. So, I got a loaded Eddie Bauer (Well, somewhat loaded- I don't have heated & cooled seats, sunroof, navigation, etc- but it's nice.)

I do have the 5.4L this time. I still can't tell the difference in power.

I miss my black-beauty XLT Sport already, but they made an offer that was hard to inprove on.
