Mine also has the 17" wheels and a tow package. Does anyone know the tow rating? Thanks.

 

I'm pretty sure its 7800 pounds. I think the 2WD's are 8000, but the 4WD's are a bit less.

 

Rear axle makes a difference too. I think it wasn't until 2000 that tow rating got as high as 7800 on a 2WD with 17" and 3:55. Seems like 7300 may be it. Check the Towing forum. There was a "post-it" post that had a link to a tow rating chart.

Also, toe rating can be over "rated". Be sure to watch gross weight ratings. I can be 300 lbs under my "tow rating" yet be over on gross weight pretty easily.

 

FamilyRide - your right the rear axle does matter. I was quoting the 7800#'s from the book on my 99, which has a 3.73 rear axle.

 

I don't know which axle I have. My door sticker says H9. That's a 3.55 isn't it? ):

 

Could be, my 99 4X4 on 17's has an H6 on the door. I'm sure the H6 is 3.73, I'm sure someone will know for sure.

 

A reply to another post tells me it is a 3.55. I'm depressed. Well maybe I'll get better gas mileage with it, than a 3.73

 

Don't you love Fords owner's manual for the 99.
Doesn't give a rating for the 5.4 with a 3.55. If you just looked at the owner's manual you wouldn't even know ther was a 3.55!
The 3.73 w/ 5.4 4X4 is 7500
The 3.31 w/ 5.4 4X4 is 6400

I'm pretty sure I read (not in the manual) that the 3.55 will allow a 6900 tow.

You also would know there were PI heads that give you 260hp!
