We had an Explorer in the dealership last year that had a rail road spike stuck through the condenser and the radiator.

My rule of thumb, don't follow ANY construction type vehicles. Especially flat bed trucks. There's all kinds of crap that fall off vehicles.

I could understand if it were a piece of rebar or something; not much could stop that, but this was a TINY ding in the metal with a pinhole leak It must have been a very small object so I think a grill like on the EB trim should be standard.

I talked to Ford today about it. They said they'll check into the issue anc call me today. I dont expect much though.
Its just BS to leave such a large unprotected area on the most vulnerable area of the vehicle

Who's to say the Eddie Bauer grill would stop a small rock?

Sometimes you have to accept life for what it is.

I dont have a problem with life, keep it focused. Do you have A.D.D.?

Why do ALL vehicles come with grill guards then? Why is it that only Ford leaves such a gaping hole in the lower facia of their vehicles?

There are billions of cars on the road with grill openings as big as the Expeditions.
You were just unfortunate to have a rock puncture your tranny cooler.
To say Ford is responsible is a little far fetched.
If you have a rock chip your windsheild, would you blame Ford?

Just my $0.02

Well, Ford covered it under warranty so I guess they accepted responsibility

I agree that it was a bit of bad luck, but a grill should be standard, thats all Im saying. Especially when the Eddie Bauer comes with it .

It's interesting that for 2005 Ford has inserted the honeycomb grill in the Super Duty grill (Which is Worse than the Expy.). Maybe they're getting more complaints than mine that there isn't enough protection eh?

Well, I know I'll be putting some kind of reasonable protection in there now

There are metal mesh grills available now that the import tuner cars use. Maybe you can adapt it to the Expy, for peace of mind.

I was thinking more along the lines of a piece of plywood and some nails to pound it in place. Then you take a picture and send it to Ford. That'll send a message.
