Expy tire purchase feedback

Hello all:

2001 Eddie Bauer Expy w/ 46K on her. In having the tire's balanced this evening, we were told that the radial is beginning to show on the original, stock tires (General Grabber 275/70/17s). I'm shopping right now for replacements and wouldn't mind hearing forumites' feedback on new tire purchases.

Right now I'm considering

Michelin Cross Terrain SUV
Michelin Cross Terrain
BFG - Radial Long Trail T/A
BFG - Comp. T/A.
Goodyear Wrangler HPs

Any other brands, I'd welcome feedback on. Thanks in advance...

Thumbs up

We have the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV's. Our 98 EB is a pure kid hauler (no off road). They are the most silent tire I have ever owned

I have Michelin's on almost all of my vehicles. You can't go wrong with them.

You may want to check out prices at www.tirerack.com

If you go to Discount Tire they will match the tire rack prices as they are owned by the same company.

Enjoy your shopping...

Alright, that's two votes Michelin. Anyone else?

Brad, thanks for the link of the rack. I've checked that website and they've got great prices. I'm likely to use the Tire Kingdown down here in SoFla. but I'll see if they'll match prices. They claim to "match anyone's advertised price." Sam's club is lower on all of the above-referenced sets too, but I'd have to special order them.

Welp, Tire Kingdom is putting on four new Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires as I write. Thanks for the input.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Cross Terrains in a temperate climate like Florida. An excellent choice.

I recently purchased the Michelin LTX M/S for my 00 Expy 4wd.

Extra full depth siping and an open shoulder are more appropriate for my driving conditions in the snow covered mountains of Oregon.

I wished for some BFG A/T's the other day as I was driving through 8" of wet snow & slush. The LTX just could not evacuate the slush fast enough under tread. However, for 90% of my driving the LTX is right on the money.

Rotate the Cross Terrains every 4-5K and they will give you outstanding, long service.

Cross Terrains here too.

One of my OEM's actually split. Get in touch with Continental Tire and see of yours are covered by their recall. I found out 6 months after replacing mine, I downloaded the form from Cont. and within about a week I had a check for about $120 each for the 4 tires.

Since yours is a 2001, you could be in the tail end of the VIN's.

Esquire,

I too got Michelins and never looked back. Actually, I got the Michelins before I took my '03 off the lot as I hated the Continentials from the first time I laid eyes on them. I tried to get the Cross Terains but local tires warehouses were out and I didn't want to wait so I got the LTX M/S and am very pleased. I was able to pay a $150 difference to upgrade from the factory installed Continentials to the Michelins and I felt that was an excellent trade.

You made a good choice with Michelins IMO. Congrats on the KR, I miss mine.

Later,

~DM~

OK, ...here goes the bad guy. If you don't want to spend a lot try the Yokohama Geolanders. They are stiffer, handle great in the rain, snow, mud, and sand. Albeit, you can't go wrong with Michelins. I have seen bent rims ride well with Michelins. Good luck, enjoy.
