Sylvania Silverstars

I wanted to know what you would suggest in replacing the headlights and foglights.

For the headlights, I am looking at the Sylvania Silverstar 9007st

For the foglights I am looking at the Sylvania SIlverstar 9005st

I have this same setup in my Cobra with no problems to date.

Am I going to melt the plastic on the fog light of the Expy?

I have a '99 EB EXPY.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Chris

Thumbs up

I use PIAA 9007s, $90 a pair. Xtreme Whites
Didn't change my fogs since I hardly ever use them.

9007's no problem. 9005's could be. They are high beams. 9006 would be more fitting but they don't fit without hacking the crap out of the socket, I know, I did it with the Expy! Too bad no one makes a 9145 aftermarket.

A lot of people run 9005's though. I bought some for the Excursion and after replacing the headlights, and seeing what I had to do to get to the fog's I brought them back. Besides, the Excursion fog housings are much smaller. I also like the more yellowish light to actually help in inclimant weather.

Thanks for the reply's. Yesterday I went ahead and added the 9007 to the headlights and and 9005 to the fog lights.

What a difference it makes.

The only trouble I had was with the left headlight and squeezing my hand past the coolant container. I did unbolt it and this provided greater access. I got all 4 bulbs from AutoZone for about $20 each.

Next project:
Is there a way to use the foglights without using the headlights?

Allright guys,

Forgive me for sounding ignorant here ( ), but are these just replacement bulbs that go into the regular sockets? My city has started putting in "efficient" streetlights, with the net result that things are a lot darker at night now, and I could use some more light.

TIA!

Yes. They replace the stock bulbs. Just pull out then plug in.

I do not have the best night vision and they REALLY illuminate the road.

I suggest you go to Sylvania's website and see the difference for yourself.

Had a look at Sylvania's website.... those Silverstars look pretty good! I'll have to see about getting me some of that in Canada.

They also stated on their site that the life expectancy of the Silverstar bulbs is about 1 year. Only 1 year? That seems awfully short.

Hmmm.... How would this affect those of us are running daytime running lights?

Put in the SilverStars 2 weeks ago and very happy with the marked improvement. I think need the lights aligned. Has anybody personally done this or was it a trip to the dealer?

I think I recall seeing an alignment diagram in the owners manual which would imply that it can be done by the masses.
