From searching, everyone says that the "2HI" option on the 4wd switch went away in '99.

I'm looking at a 2000 that has the 4-position switch w/ "2HI". Any thoughts on this? Everything else looks 2000. Front fascia is correct and the A/C controls are in the console instead of the roof.

I'm glad I'm not crazy. I ran into a 99' Expy that had that option as well, everyone told me I was crazy, as they said that option ended with the 98' model year. The 99' I looked at had the updated, and had the new instrument cluster...So I guess Ford threw in the option to turn off the 4 wheel drive on some of the later models.

 

My 02 with 4.6 engine didnt have the 2hi position but a friends with the 5.4 did ,my new 04 has a 5.4 and the switch has the 2hi maybe its the motor upgrade.

 

I'm pretty sure the last year the 2Hi option was available was in '99. I have a 2000 and it doesn't have it although sometimes I wish it did (can't slide around corners in the dirt!). The '99 has the same front end as the 2000. The only exterior difference I know if is the absence of an antenna on the 2000. That year they moved it to one of the rear windows. As for the A/C controls, mine are also on the ceiling. I thought the only ones with the controls on the console were those with sunroofs. Hope this helps.

 

I just bought a 2003 and it has the 2hi on it. Also 5.4l

 

I've got a 2000 4x4, and don't have the 2Hi option. My AC controls are in the front panel, below the radio. The ones for the rear AC are up top on the ceiling. (No sunroof, btw).

 

I was just talking about the first gen Expedition when I said the '99 was the last year with the 2Hi option. The '00 to '02 don't have it. Another quick clue as to the year of the vehicle is the '99 has a smaller center console with armrests built in to the front seats. The armrests were removed in 2000 and the console was enlarged.
