2004 Expedition Help!

I just bought a 2004 Expedition and had 22's put on it.

Little did I know about the tire moniroting system on the truck.

Anyone know of a way to disable it?

What's this money rotting system that you're asking about?

Seriously tho, what does it monitor, tire pressure, wheel revolutions? What is it doing that makes you want to disable it??

With the new wheels not having the sensos installed I get a tire pressure fault on my message center every 10 miles.

On the 2003s you could turn it off but on the 2004s you can't.

Some wheels let you mount the sensors to them. The sensor is attached to the metal valve stem on the factory wheels.

Can I buy new sensors for my 22's?

Know the part # by chance?

Im guessing they would have to be programmed to the truck right?

Where are the old wheels?

Just unscrew the nut aroud the valve stem and they should come out.

You would have to see if they would fit the new wheel.

Also you are supposed to replace the gasket on the stem when you remove and replace them.

I dont have the part number.

Found this doing a search.

Did you get "Tire Pressure System Fault" or "Tire Pressure Sensor Fault"?

Just got new tires and rims for the wife's Expy (2004 EB) yesterday. Everything was cool. This morning she got the SYSTEM fault code above. Are you saying it will never go away? Seems like if the sensors were not installed on the new valve stems you would get the SENSOR fault code.

Were you able to fix this?

If you can't get the stems from the old wheels put on the new, the next best is to check with the dealer and get them to disable it via the computer. There is a way or else everybody with aftermarket wheels would be complaining.

You also might want to check over at www.fordtruckworld.com. They have a fairly active expy/navi board. Good luck.

Has to be a way

Our '04 NBX doesn't have a tire pressure monitoring system (not even an option) so there has to be a way to disable that "feature". As MHMCGILL said, it probably has to be done by a dealership dinking with the vehicles computer system.

My dealer told me that it could not be disabled because it was a "safety feature". However, after discussing the sensors and aftermarket wheels with them for a couple of minutes it became obvious that I knew a lot more than the dealership.

Turns out the Truck Shop didn't transfer the sensors to the new tires and rims (because I didn't tell him to). He is doing it today, free of charge. Evidently only some (just a few) aftermarket rims will accept the sensors and the ones my wife had picked out do (Eagle 101's). Most Welds will too from what I gather. If anyone else is picking out rims for their Expy, make sure the rims have a flat area to mount the sensor. Hopefully all will be cool when we pick it up tonight.

FWIW, the tire pressure monitoring system can be disabled using Ford's scan tools, either WDS or PDS.

Had the sensors removed from old tires/rims and reinstalled on the new tires/rims. No more fault. Thanks for advice.
