Will it be able to tow a 87 mustang with a open trailer ot a 65 buick with open trailer.
Thanks Patrick

I have a 00' Expy with a 4.6l, 3.55 and towed a 63' Fairlane 500 60 miles or better through the mountains without any real problems.

I had a 2000 wiht a 5.4, tow package etc. plus aftermarket goodies including suspension, chip, exhaust, intake, shift kit etc.

It towed our 7500# boat pretty well but I wouldn't have wanted to tow any more and not stock either.

If you're in the <4000# range towing with a '97 with a 5.4 you could be OK. In '97 most had 3:31 gears and that coupled with the pre PI head motors equals a truck that's going to struggle some. You need a tranny cooler hands down. Depending on miles and service, that could be a handful for the tranny too. Most 4R100's (came behind 5.4's) in Expy's (soft shifting strategy and internals) would even be toast by 60k miles if worked hard towing and totaly stock. The Expy shifts for Soccer Mom's so you get a more slipping which kills them.

That's interesting to hear. Is there a somewhat easy way to prevent / get around that? Our trailer is around 4000#, and the truck has 62K on it. It has a big tranny cooler on it. Seemed to tow OK on the last two trips we had with it...

I have a cooler that I can put onto the truck was going to go on my race car but since its not running right now I can put it on the truck and get something else.
As well is there anyway I can change the line pressure or solce the shifting problem.
Truck has 127k on it but was well taken care of.

This one may top the charts... I used my '99 EB 4x4 to haul my Lightning in an enclosed trailer (21') from Cleveland, Ohio to Bristol, TN. That was an interesting trip, but the truck performed flawlessly... the LLS did what is was supposed to, and the weight distribution bars really helped the ride. I imagine that I was hauling in the neighborhood of close to 9000lbs. I was extremely surprised that the truck did that well.... and turned 100,000 miles on the trip!
