Driving impressions 05 expy..

I've had my new expy now for a day and I can't believe how
much better it drives than my old 99 eddie bauer.

It's a night and day difference. Quicker - not much, but I'll
take the +40HP gain any day of the week. however, the
handling and suspension is just amazingly better.

Used to hit a speed bump in the 99 and it was bounce
city. Now you barely feel it and the car doesn't hop around.
Independant suspension was the best idea ford could have
implemented for this truck. Going around long bends and
pushing it a bit - the 99 would get the leans real bad.. not
anymore in 05.

Steering is a lot tighter now as well. I'm not sure if they put
a smaller p/s pump on the new ones or what, but it's not
nearly as loose.

All in all, I couldn't be happier. I'd almost say I should have
done it earlier, but the +40hp didn't come till this year.

Even with the 20" rims (285-50-20 goodyears) on it, the ride
is still smooth.

the only thing that would have been nice is a better
interior. it's pretty much the same, little better looking
inside then the previous body style. however, it still pales
in comparison to other vehicles in this price range. For the
same $40K MSRP one of those little acura mdx's gets you
full navigation + bluetooth and an interior thats nicely laid out.
the expedition interior seems like it was more an after thought.
but I knew this going in and it's not a big deal to me, but
something ford can certainly improve on (in all their cars).

I agree with you, except the part about the interior. I love the interior of our new 05. I can't believe how smooth it rides.

I have purposely stayed away from driving an 05. So far I still like my 99, which only has 35,000 on it. I'm really trying to keep it that way for awhile. One question, though, how does the mileage on the 05 compare to your 99? Seems like that third valve should increase efficiency some.

I've only got ~350 miles total on the truck thus far.. but
gas mileage is about the same. I've got a lead foot and
only do around the town driving.

Get about 11mpg.

However, almost ever car I've ever owned has gotten about
the same +/- a few mpg - from mustangs to a 4runner I
had for a while and a e320 benz.
