Cracked windshield

WTF. The other night it was raining out. I came home n parked, the blades were still on the shield bc I had them keep going after i shut it off. it was about 68* out. I got back from school the next day and took it to go get gas, it was about 75* out. And I look in front of me and there is a giant 10 inch crack in my windshield. Before I bought the truck there was a tiny tiny nick in the lower corner of the shield. Now its cracked 10 inches to the right and to the left of that tiny nick. WTF happened? No foul play. Could it have been the sudden weather change? Wipers putting pressure on shield while sitting in the sun? How much are these shields going for?

My windshield got a 30 inch crack about five years ago.
It is not in the line of vision so it passes the State Inspection.
In fact I think the Inspection sticker helps hold the windshield together.

So it may not cost you nothing.

If it's the same as an '03 F150, mine cost me $225.

Any change in the temperature can cause a crack to run and especially
if it is a sudden change in temperature. Around Memphis,Tn a windshield
for a 2004 Expedition will cost around $240.00 installed if you pay cash. If
you are going through your Insurance they like to charge them more. That
is why a lot of times they'll ask you if you're going through an insurance
company when you call for a qoute.

Just remember to ask for a Carlite brand. OEM is a good windshield and I have had better luck concerning pitting with the original Carlite than I have with PPG and other aftermarkets.

For comparison's sake, I had to get the windshield in my '04 F150 replaced; a Carlite, installed, was $341.
