Rear Wiper on Expedition

Has anybody had a problem with their rear wiper in their Expedition? I have a 98 Expedition that the wiper will work when i don't need it but not when I do need it. I can go for months and the thing will work every time I try it then it seems as soon as I need it it won't work. If you have had a problem please let me know what you found. Thanks Riley

Water entry into the GEM/central junction box via a windshield leak, usually at the upper corner on the driver's side, can cause weird electrical concerns. I'd look for any backed out pins at the multifunction switch, causing intermittent connections at times as well.

Just replace the rear motor on my 01 Expy. Would only work occasionally. Cost less for motor at parts store than the ESP deductable. $40.00 and about 20 minutes of my time.

Hey Riley,

I had the same problem with my '98 Expedition. I had a friend of mine at a dealership hook it up and found that the wiper motor was shorting out. Replaced the motor and it works great now.

Check This

Hey Riley, Had the same problem but it wasn't electrical. The plastic gear that turns the wiper had some teeth missing. Next time it doesnt work try this, with the wiper turned on, lift the wiper arm up to see if the motor picks up on the good teeth that are still left. That will give an idea if it is electrical or not. Couldn't find a new gear so I spun the gear around to a section with good teeth. Not reccommending that, takes awhile and some rigging. Hope that helps

My vote is also for the motor.
