A little ridiculous...

My buddy next door bought an '06 Expy. Been a Chevy / Dodge guy. He goes to change his oil this evening, and, wouldn't ya know it, the filter was welded on. Not literally. So, needless to say, after 3 hours of screwin around with it, first proper tools, filter cap socket, that strips out. Hammers, screwdrivers thru the filter etc, it's getting towed to the dealer. I don't know what the torque specs are for the filter, but I think they are about 200lbs over what it should be. I just hope the dealer doesn't try to stick it up his rear cause he messed the filter up so bad. I let the dealer do my first oil change, and even the 2nd when I did it myself, I was unsure if the filter was gonna come off. What's the deal boys???

It took me just over 2 hours to remove the filter on my new 05 Vic. I did all the above to no avail. I had to use one of the ratchet style oil filter removal tools to get it off. I was pissed! I have never seen an oil filter on so tight.

Good news is they only charged him $11. They used his oil and filter. At least it shouldn't be so tight the next time. What a joke that was.

I just did mine over the weekend -- no issues. Only thing that made me mad, it was a certified pre-owned. Which should have gotten a oil change the day we bought it but nope, oil was not clean, I switched to full Mobil 1.

I'm very meticulous when it comes to filter and drain plug. I always get the Fram suregrip and tighten it on my own with about half of my strength and it doesn't budge. Don't even have to use a tool to get it off, just my own strength again.
