Question 03 up Expy: off-road ground clearance OK?

Hello All,

I'm considering a new '06 Expy.

The new independent rear suspension seems to have about 1/2 the ground clearance next to the wheels that my '00 has.

Will this act like a snowplow on soft beach sand, or is it OK?

I have an 04' EB w/ some experience in this issue... I did order and install all the skid plates while it was still new. I also replaced the stock tires w/ Bridgestone Revos, and recently Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires. I think the "upgraded" tires have helped w/ the traction.

I don't have any issues w/ the rear clearance, but I do hit allot of stuff on the front skid plate. I don't think it really hurts anything, but it does make interesting noises. I've also hit the right side running board on a rock, but it is not all that noticeable.

I don't do allot of offroading w/ it, but I have taken it up some mountain trails designed for a jeep and used it at a deer lease we have. My typical trails are rocky, and have some grades to them. I have used 4 high and low extensively and the system as a whole works well. I have never taken it in deep mud. I am sure it would sink to the frame and just spin all 4 wheels.

I have been very impressed w/ the stability of it and its ability to travel in true 4x4 places. For example, I drove up a 10+ degree mountain trail that was covered w/ loose rocks that had water running down it. I was really nervous about it, but it didn't even slip, at all.

Hopefully this helps.
