Need Spare Keys (Need Help)
I am writing this post for my dad:
We have lost our original keys and we need new keys. I read in other threads that you can get spare keys. I have read in other threads that you have to use the original keys just to program it. So I assume we need to go to the dealership to get new keys. I was wondering if we DO need the original and if we do need the original keys to get spares? also how will we be able to do it since we can't turn on the 2002 expediton. Sorry if they are dumb question, but if someone could please answer these question it would be great. Thanks

If you lost the only keys you had, you will have to either:
1) Have the truck towed to a dealer and buy at least two keys plus the service. Your dealer's parts dept can cut new keys based on your VIN and proof of ownership, however, these keys won't start the truck until the trucks PATS system has been programmed to recognize the new keys. This requires special equipment that only a dealer or as below.
or
2) Contact a qualified and well-equipped locksmith to come to your home and perform the same service. See your local yellow pages and call around.
Once you have two keys, you can then add additional keys (precut) to the PATS system yourself.
If, by chance, your truck has an aftermarket remote starter installed, there should likely be a key installed in the PATS bypass module somewhere under the dash.
