Which shocks for my '01 Expy?

I've got a 2001 Expy 4wd (stock height and no air suspension) that just turned over 100k miles. I'm pretty sure that it's way past needing new shocks but I'm going to do that now. What shocks should I go with?

I don't really do any off-road driving. I want a smooth ride on the road. I have looked at KYB (not sure which model would be appropriate) and Monroe (again not sure about appropriate model). I've read a lot of posts raving the Bilsteins but I'm not sure a heavy duty shock is really what I need.

Recommendations (both brand and model)?

I got some Monore Sensa-tracks from Sears that came with free install for my '01 Expy EB sometime in '03. Ride was somewhat better, those stockers go bad real quick.

I have Bilsteins and I am completely satisfied with the performance. I had Edelbrock's before these and one shock had a leak and ended up replacing all 4 with Bilsteins. You have to remember these are heavy trucks! Good luck with your decision.

So the Bilsteins don't create a harsh ride over bumps and stuff on paved roads? I'd rather not go to a "jar your teeth out ride". I see your point on the vehicle weight.

I'm starting to think the Edelbrocks might be right for me. I would like to reduce role and nose diving but without creating a harsh ride. It sounds like the Edelbrock is the one that does that.

Well...after much debate and much, much more reading of countless posts, I've opted for the Monroe Reflex. I like the sound of the Edelbrocks but they and the Rancho RSX which sound very similar are just too expensive. I hear that the Monroe Reflex is the exact same as the Rancho RSX. I figure at least this way, the coinage I save on shocks, I can put toward that rear sway bar I've been wanting but have yet to get

I have about 10k miles on my RSX's and haven't had any problems. ride is quite a bit stiffer than stock, but not that bad on the highway.

I put Monroe Reflex shocks on my 98 Expy and didn't really notice any difference in handling. It still handles like a drunk elephant. I'm a little disappointed as I'm a lifelong Monroe fan. Next time around, I'm going with the Bilstiens.

hey Mud, have you changed the rear swaybar bushings yet? I'm wondering if that'll as well.
