98 expedition problems

I have a whining noise on my 98 expedition. At first I thought it was the power steering unit that was making the noise, I also changed one of the idler pulleys, the tensioner pulley has a bearing that will continue to spin when I spin it. Almost like there isn't any grease in the bearing. Now I am thinking it is the altenator until tonight when I went under the truck I put a screwdriver on the tranny pan at the back bottom of it and heard a whining noise. Is this o.k? Also when you have the lights, heat on full and radio on, would the interior gauge lights dim slightly when idleing and go alittle brighter when driving. The altenator only has about 25-30k on it.
The truck drives great but annoying hearing the noise. It goes away when you are driving it is only at initial takeoff.
Thank for the help in advance.
