Question Dash light - Brake

I got a problem on my wifes 1999 Expedition with the break light on the dash. The light is on and has been on for a while, according to my wife, but I just found out. The owners guide says that the light should only stay on when the parking break is engaged or the fluid level is low.

The fluid level is good and the parking break is not engaged, anyone got any idea. I hate to take it in to get the code read for $70 and find out it is something I can fix without spending the money.

Try pulling up on the parking brake foot pedal... I've seen it before where it doesn't come up all the way till you pull on it a bit. Perhaps even try pulling the release lever while you pull up on the foot pedal.

If that doesn't work... there is also a chance that it is due to a sensor (Brake fluid level indicator (FLI) switch, ABS speed sensor, etc) that has failed. If that is the case you will need to have the codes read to see which one failed.

I believe some auto supply stores will read codes for free...

An F140 is what I drive now, but it will one day grow up to be an F150 when I get my lift, wheels and tires.

Thanks for the catch and the info.
