Question 99-02 AWD Question

How does the AWD work in the 99-02 expy's? Is there an electric clutch that engages at certain times? Vacuum hubs? Mechanical hubs? Auto hubs? Is there a way to make it 2WD rather than Auto 4WD? And still have the 4H and 4L? On my 01 Explorer I was able to put a switch inline with the torq on demand clutch to disconnect the AWD function and it made it drive a 100% better and I want to know if this is possible on an Expy. Thanks

Yes you can put in a switch to make it RWD. A while back I had put a switch in to the fuse box under the hood. Good Luck!

dont suppose you have any info on what wire to do this on? I just picked up an 00 expedition last night for the wife and I was hoping to be able to kill the awd. with the switch off does it prevent the truck from going into 4x4 also?

A4WD is extremely annoying. I'd be thrilled to be able to force it to stay in RWD.
