Sub zero temps and anti-theft system.

I have a '97 Expedition, Eddie Bauer. Whenever the temps get below 5F outside, my truck will start, then the theft light begins to flash and 2 seconds later the engine dies. Once the temps warm, it will start just fine. This only happens in very cold temps.

I talked to my local Ford dealer and they said something in my PATS system is having trouble reading the chip in the key. They said to buy a new key, and I did without success. Now the ford dealer says to troubleshoot this problem would be more trouble than it is worth, because it could be anywhere in the system.

Has anyone else had this problem, as I am sure that I am not the first. Also, Is there a way to bypass the anti-theft system? Our local remote starter guy says no, but they are stolen, so there must be a way.
