Mileage between different models, 2wd, 4wd, EL and non EL

so I've seen the mileage parts of threads here and there in a search I think we could put it together in an organized thread with screen names possibly even so we know who all is getting what mileage so we could possibly pm with qs should we have any...

so I noticed in the EL KR thread for an example

Tylus says 12.5-13mpg 100% city. no distinction of 2wd or 4wd

Smokewagon says wife gets 14-15city he gets 16-17 city, 20ish highway not noted 2wd or 4wd

cc1999 says - suburban gets 14 city 16 highway max. not posted 2wd or 4wd not that it matters but I just wanted to get a few numbers up rather than just the two.

I'm hoping guys can comment with their results and weather 2wd or 4wd and EL or regular. hope we can get some sort of baseline going and possibly one day help people in search of getting a new SUV I'm getting an Expy for the wife tomorrow so I'm curious for myself as well, it's a 2wd regular wheelbase 07 so I get to run the 6 speed auto to see what I think

edit: so with all the 7 views none know their mileage? I get 10mpg tank to tank on my titan... that's per tank, I have a 25gal tank and I get 250miles til I need a refill, then usually I fit 22-24gals in so I suppose possibly a HAIR above 10mpg, that is also not taking into account tires being 35"s and the computer calibrated for 32"s hope that inspires people to share more...

only got 3 tanks of gas through my Expy, and I haven't driven it in nearly 3 weeks.

it was pulling 13-14 MPG...can't really determine mileage yet in mine though since it has <1,000 miles

Specs:
2008 Expy EL
Gears: no idea...help anybody?
4x2

Sunny Hawaii...at least 85F everyday, with scattered showers

how u guys been liking our vog? here on the Big Island we like to share :P LOL, I usually don't bother looking where people are from but the weather thing threw me into looking, I'm in kona but I fly up there tonight and still dunno when I'll come back, may stay there til tuesday as that's when young brothers can accept the suv.

hey, I'm getting my wife this expy from CL in oahu tomorrow, reason for sparking this whole trip

http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/cto/1163989655.html

where's a place that'd have a dual catback INSTOCK that could possibly install it tomorrow or this weekend? wanna get it done before I ship it back. borla or gibson would be my 1st choice magnaflow a close 2nd/3rd. it looks like at least the rear is tinted so I'll have the front done up here. also where's a good wheel/tire place that has good deals? wanting to put 22"s or 24"s on it... I found some 22"s on CL but gotta go and check them out make sure they're cherry

I can give you two different perspectives:

My past 2007 - Eddie Bauer edition, NON-EL 2x4: 21.4mpg on a cross country trip (NC to CA and back). It was an unfortunate casualty of a divorce, hehe.

My current 2009 - Limited NON-EL 4x4: in 1400 miles, it's averaging 18.8mpg with about 70%hwy.

I imagine between the differences in axle ratios, the weight of the 4x4, and the 6sp transmission, these two would be turning mostly identical mpg.

I don't have a heavy foot in these things (that's what my Mustangs are for). Waiting to turn 1500 (should be today) and will pull the silencer/cone off the airbox to see if that helps at all.

Of note, my '09 corners like no SUV should, given their cushy, elephant nature. This is with 20s - but none-the-less I'm impressed.

I think we'll get 15average with this tank,

2wd xlt 07 picked it up friday and had a borla si/do put on saturday morning as well as 22" diamo with 305/45/22 rubber... looks much nicer lol but mileage prolly went down 1mpg. I'll watch the trip A meter and reset it on the next fil. I'm using chevron premium, with my titan the ecu retards timing a hair for 87 or up for premium so I've only ever used premium

don't waste your money on 89 or better with the Expy

Ford doesn't play ECU games. It can sense the higher octane if it's a Flex Fuel...but the PCM doesn't mess with the timing to utilize the higher octane.
sucks, because with my Hemi Durango, I can feel a difference between 87 and 89 octanes...but that ECU adjusts for the difference

Here ya go.

2007 Expy Limited EL 4WD

I havent been measuring out my mileage based on miles per tank or anything fancy like that. I have been watching the info display to see what it has been giving me. Most of my driving is short, around town stuff with very infrequent highway miles. Yesterday afternoon the display pushed onto 12.0 mpg. I've put about 1500 miles on the truck since I bought it a little over 2months or so ago. When I first drove it off the dealers lot, the average on the display was 10.6 mpg so I have been doing better than whomever had it before.

I'm driving out to Pennsylvania the beginning of next month so I'll keep track of my highway miles to see how that goes. I live in NH so that'll be a nice leg-stretcher for the CTU.

Someone probably reset the computer. 10 mpg is realy low. I know when I fianlly got to test drive a used EL LTD 4x4 with 20s. I pushed the reset right when we started the test drive. I wanted to see what it was getting with me driving like I normally do, I also took it through a mix of city and highway to get good feel for the mileage. The one I was test driving was getting about 14 prior to the highway section, then it made its way up to about 16, and when the drive was over it was showing an average of 15.

As to my current 2007 Suburban Z71, it is also a 4x4 and the general combined highway city average is 15.

To me the mileage seemed near identical to the Suburban's. But I have read different road test reviews comparing the two and it was said that the 6 speed allowed the Expy to get about 1mpg better than the Suburban on the hyway.

My new 09 KR EL 4x4 is do to arrive in the next couple weeks and, I tend to monitor fuel consumption on every tank in every vehicle I own, both with the trucks computer and the old fashion way with a calculator and reseting the trip meter every fillup. I should be able to offer some pretty detailed info in the future about my Expy

I should be able to come back to this thread with my findings on my new Expy in a month or so.

FYI
2009 Expeditions gear ratios
EL rear diffs are 3.73s
Std length Rear diffs are 3.31s

now does that hold true for the 07 and 08's?

there is a real lack of info on these things. which is weird considering how popular they seem to be

I am not sure on the 07, or the 08, but from what I could tell in the 09 order guide, as I recall there was not a change listed under the new features for 09. So it would be my best guess that the 09 and 08 are likely the same.

I have a fleet pass code that lets me into the Ford oasis system, if you can get me your Vin, I would be happy to see if I can find the answer for you.

The 08 appears to be the same as the 09.
Here is the 08 Order guide.

07 4x4 EL Limited. 50k on the clock. Combined highway/in-town driving sits at about 16.9. Highway, if I keep my foot out of it will hit 19-20. If I put my foot in it around town I'll get down to 14-15 range.

The 01 Supercrew I had got 13 on a good day.

Mike
