Question problem with my expi engine

I have a 98 expidition with 37340 miles on it and it was the sweetest ride until the valves started to knock a little when it was about to shift gears. But one day while I was driveing, it just started makeing a sound like a desiel engine makes and then just shut off. i finaly got it started and back to the house. i took it to the ford dealership.
and they checked the oil and there were little slivers of metel in the oil. well they said leave it and they would check it out.
well the next week they put in a brand new 5.4 engine.

my question is has anyone else had problems like this?

After they put the new engine in the expi
it has not been as "smooth" driveing and idleing.
also it does not ride as good any more.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Unfortunately, yes.

You could do a quick 'search' on "piston slap" on this web if you have a lot of time to kill; but I warn you ahead of time that you should not do so if you have a weak stomach.

(But welcome to this very informative message board.)

189 days with no piston slap or door cracks,

There is no reason changing the engine would affect the "ride" of the truck. Check the tires and be sure they are inflated to the proper levels. Since its a 2wd, does it have rear LLS? If so, make sure it is operational. Other than that, shocks are about the only thing that could change. With almost 38000 miles, I'd suggest replacing them anyway. Edelbrocks have done a fine job for me. Bilsteins are also good.
