I have a question and I need some help I have the option of buying either a 97 expedition XLT 4.6L leather,rear air,3rd seat,6 disc changer etc.It has 75,000 miles and i can get it for 12,500 and its in pretty good shape,The 2nd option I can buy a 99 expedition XLT same stuff same black color and it has 24,500 miles and i can get it for 21,100 and it is also in pretty good shape.I need to make a decision buy Monday Any information will be aprecated Thanks

Which truck do you want? There is a huge price difference in those two trucks. I have a '97 Expy with the 4.6L and although it is not a powerhouse and I would preferred the 5.4 L, like you I got a great deal on the truck and went for it. I have already superchipped (helped the performance alot!!) it and I am planning on adding a Gibson cat back system and an Airaid intake system.
I know the 4.6L has been used in my area on state squads and it is not uncommon to see 150k+ miles on them.

Of course I would love to have the 99 but there is a 9300 difference in the price.If i do get the 97 Do you think with good maintance the 4.6L will last another 50,000 miles.I just don,t want to buy it and a month later I need to do major motor work.I am just trying to find out what do ya think?

Our '97 "X" gets driven hard... stoplight drags, heavy acceleration, offroading, and towing. It has almost 47,000 miles and doesn't burn a drop of oil or make any strange noises. I run Mobil 1 fluids and change the oil regularly. K&N filter and Superchip have been installed for a couple of years. I see no reason why it won't go another 100,000 miles. Yes, the power of the '99+ 5.4L would be nice, but we manage just fine.
