Post Switching to synthetic oil

Am I asking for trouble if I switch over to Mobil 1 in my 97 Expedition with 72000 miles on it? It doesn't leak or burn oil. What do you think? Thanks.

Ive ran mobil 1 before in all 5 of my vehicles. For some reason it made all 5 of them get terrible gas mileage!Even the 98 maxima. Its susposed to be good oil, this is just my experience with it. I have since been using the valvoline 5w-30 full synthetic
with excellant results. Engines seem to run smoother and quieter. Gas mileage is back up again also.My 97 EB EXPY has 51,000 on the clock and has never been in the shop for anything!!Been using the valvoline in it since day one.
Good luck!

Blue97X-
I switched over my 2000 Expy XLT 4x4 at 10,000 miles, and am scheduled for next oil change. Other than the engine temp being a bit lower, I haven't noticed any difference in performance.

If you read other threads about synthetic oil, you see a variety of owners switching at different mileage intervals without issue.

Hope this helps...

Switched my 97 Expy over to Valvoline 10W-30 Synthetic at 80,000 miles and havent had any problems. 130K now, dosent leak, burn oil at all. So I say switch, probably personal preference on what brand you plan on using.

I switched my 99 X over to synthetic at 10K miles and haven't had any problems at all. Never really noticed any benefits, but I figure a better oil is cheap insurance on a motor. I've ran it in my Stang for the last 9 years with no problems. By the way I use Castrol Syntec.
