Post AWD under acceleration

I'm too lazy to do a topic search....
here's what we got 2000 Awd Eddie Bauer 5.4L.
under moderate to hard acceleration up to about 40 mph you can hear faint scraping/groaning sounds up front. Is this the front wheels trying to engage? I thought I read that the awd will kick in under hard acceleration, but don't know if a sound accomodates the action.

Does mom know about this "moderate" acceleration you're doing?

You might "feel" the front wheels engage, but I don't think you should hear anything.

Talking

is there any other way to accelerate, nomo?

It makes the noise for her too.

Nomo,
My truck is out of the shop, going to swap with mom today. She said it goes right into gear and felt like it had some more pep on acceleration. you know what that means..... now we just have to wait to see how long it takes me to break it again. I can't wait to stomp on it and see if it is actually any better.

Cool. From what I hear, that shop is a good one. Your truck should run fine.

Now, what about this noise on the X? Michele's doesn't make any noise (other than exhaust) when in A4WD. Operation is/should be silent.
