Post Pics of color-keyed, lighted running boards

I installed the color-keyed running boards in place of the OEM black ones about 6 months ago. However, I just never got any pics up.

The ones I recently took were on an overcast day, so they are not as bright as I'd like, but you'll get a decent look at them.

If interested, go to my website below and scan down to the Expy. I left the older pics up, too, b/c they are good quality pics.

Or, you can go directly to http://hometown.aol.com/wa2fst/Expy.html

Those look really nice. Where did you get them? Have you thought about painting your mirrors silver? I think that would look really good.

I got the running boards through Ford.

As far as the mirrors go, if I do it, I'll just buy some of the painted ones from Ford. I think that would be better than trying to find a shop who will do good work. That rough, textured plastic has to be difficult to get _right_.

Just thought that I would let you know, that from personal experience the mirrors do not come painted from Ford. Your best bet would be to try to find some off a wrecked silver expy or lariet. They are expensive little items.

WA2FST- I just noticed your signature. You have a S351 too!!! You dog you!! I can only imagine how all your toys look lined up in the garage. You must have a very understanding wife.
Anyways, The pics of your expy motivated me months ago to get the Lightning wheels,so they are here just waiting on the tires to arrive this week.
Those running boards look really good on yours!

ShankDog,

Thanks man. Go to the webpage for pics of the Mustangs if you're bored sometime.

Glad you went with the 285/55s. You will like that size tire much better than the short-sidewall (and short diameter) 295/45s that come on the Lightnings.

What color is your truck? Send me/us some pics once you get it all installed!

And, yes...I have a very understanding wife. Actually, the Expy is hers and she says people stop and stare at it, and many times ask her questions about it when she's out and about. She just replies, "I don't know anything about it. My husband did all this stuff."

WA 2 FST,
Did you get the bumper through Ford or somewhere else? Looks great. How much does that set you back?

ShankDog,

I got the big-time thumbs down when I considered an exhaust on the Expy. So, instead I just got a 3" chrome plated tip...its very long (like 20") so you cannot see that its welded on unless you get underneath the truck. But that wimpy 2" factory tip had to go!

HOSRACN,

I did get the front clip from my local Ford dealer. For _everything_ including misc. brackets (there are a number of them), fog light assembly, prep and paint, + the upper front grill (mine was chrome plated from the factory, so I had to get a different one) it will run ~$1k.

WA2FST-
Since you've done all this work on the running boards, I thought I would ask a related question. Do you of anyone carrying superwhites for the OEM running board lights? Also, do you know the bulb number in them.

I'm running superwhites on my headlamps and foglamps, and wanted to change the running board bulbs as well.

Any info is greatly appreciated...

jmartinb,

I have superwhite PIAA bulbs in my OEM running boards and they look FANTASTIC! They are so bright and have a tint of purple, but are absolutely stunning!

They have been in my running boards for a year and haven't faded at all. Sorry I do not have the bulb fitment information but I just wanted to let you know they do exist.

YoungMomoMan & Ranwin-
Thanx to you both for the info! YMM, were the PIAA bulbs difficult to install? Where did you get them, and for how much $$? Looks like we have very similar Expys.

Ordered the PIAA Superwhite replacement bulbs (#168) today from PUMA (800.354.3552). They run $12.50\pair and $5.00 shipping for 3-day service. I ordered two pair, and hope to have them installed next week.

Thanx for the info, everyone.
