Question Discoloration of black trim below windows

I have noticed on my '99 and on a '00 that the black strip below the door windows looks "blotchy", where the paint/coating at the factor has came off. Is this a problem common on all Expeditions? Has anyone had these repainted? I thought about just tapeing off the area and using some high quality flat black spray paint on it followed with some clear coat spray. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a 97 and 00 EB Expy and those plastic trim pieces fade really bad. In fact, the ones on my 97 are nearly all white!! When I wash the Expy's, I put meguires endurance tire shine on those trim pieces and they look great until it rains. I have yet to find anything that will stay on them and not run off down the doors after a rain.

Mine did it too. The most damage was in the first 6 months.

I took it in and the dealer replaced them. I think there is a TSB but I can't find it.

So far the ones they replaced them with look much better; although it's only been a few months.

Try using Castrol Tire Shine. It comes in the same type bottle as the super clean. It doesn't have any petroleum in it and it does not fling off your tires. Plus, it makes the black trim look like glass.

I use Mothers brand "Back to Black" on the trim. It lasts about a week or two and does not cause any ugly runoff on the doors. Wipe it on, the buff it for a bit- makes them look like they came out of the mold. If you do not buff, they will look oily and streaky.

My warranty went out 6 months ago. From what I hear here, the new ones would fade over time anyway.
