Well, I ordered my replacement tires online today from the tirerack.com. Ordered 5 Bridgestone Dueler AT's @ $97 a tire. Shipping was $83.85 for a todal of $568.85. I was only able to find one local dealer that could even get the Dueler AT in my size, 265/70/17, and he wanted $128+ 9% tax. Hopefully my new tires will come in sometime next week and I'll be ready for vacation!!

Hey JimmSimm,
Where did you read/copy the above post from???? Also, my nephew has a Mazda with the AT's on it. Any chance the recall may soon apply for the mazda trucks too??? They are basically the same as the rangers....

sixguy, the excerpt is a direct scan from the Houston Chronicle Page 10A, dated Wednesday, May 23, 2001. And yes, the recall does include all Mazda B-Series and Navajos as well as Mercury Mountaineers.

Well on all my paperwork straight from Ford(I am a Tech at the Ford dealer) says $110 for 15 and 16 and $130 for 17. It is sure possible some info is all screwed up lol. I too watched the live brodcast on Fordstar. I will look at all my paperwork at the shop again tues and see for sure. At either price though it isn't enough considering most 17" replacements run about $150-$175 each.

Hey attitude,
Give me a little comfort here. Yesterday I ordered 5 Bridgestone Dueler AT's to replace my stones. There shouldn't be any problem getting my reimbursement since these weren't on the approved list, huh?? None of the approved tires for 265/70/17's are all-terrain tires as were the stones. I wanted to get the best AT tire I could, and for the money I feel that the duelers fit the bill.

Sixguy, since I have a 4x4 and 16" wheels, I went with the LT285/75/16 Dueler AT's for my replacements. They ride very nicely and look soooo much better than the "little" Firestones. I dropped off my old tires at a local Ford dealership and the service guys actually commented how nice the new tires looked...told me my check would arrive in about six weeks. Good luck with yours.

Hey JimmSimm, Thanks. I actually was wanting to go to a 285, but most of the tires available for 17" are thr same STOCK size, 265/70/17. I did find a 275 in a Goodyear Wrangler ATS, but the Dueler AT seemed to have such better ratings that I just decided to go with them. If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase yours at and how much???? Thanks again...

Yes that is true 6-8 weeks for the reimbursement check. Shouldn't be a problem at all. Just one comment, All you guys aware that Bridgestone owns Firestone? lol!!
And as Ford and Firestone parted ways, and Firestone trying to blame Ford for their bad tires, and me working for Ford, I would never buy a Bridgestone/Firestone tire!! Even though i agree about the replacemnet tires not being very agressive, and i personally am not a big fan of the Wrangler RT/S (too wimpy) and i like the tread of the dueler AT and dueler MT.

And I did look at my papers again today and was right on the prices $110 15&16 $130 17

Although this does not affect me, I am VERY happy to see Ford taking a stand and doing the right thing. They will take a fairly large hit with this, but it will be the best interest for them and the public, thumbs up to Ford for this one.

The maximum refund for tires purchased after May 22, 2001 is:
- 15 inch tires: $110.00 per tire (includes mounting, balancing, valve stems, and wheel weights)
- 16 and 17 inch tires: $130.00 per tire (includes mounting, balancing, valve stems, and wheel weights)

The above was cut from the refund form at:

Thanks for posting that dennis, Guess I'll have to have the service manager contact our service rep in the morning and get **** straightened out. On all the papers sent directly to dealers say the others prices. glad someone finally gave me a link to go to and look. I stand corrected. As you probably already know us dealers are always the last to know when Ford changes their mind about something.

I'm sure things have been nuts at Ford and their dealers the past few days so getting the wrong information is understandable. Just hope it gets cleared up one way or another. Who knows? Maybe the form is wrong.

It is hard to tell at this point in time. They update **** all the time though and forget to tell any of us!! Hell, the media always knows about all the recalls and **** before we do. Then when customers call and say i heard this on CNN we say really? It is always a big mess. Guess that's what happens when politics gets into it lol

Sixguy, I got my tires at Discount Tires for $113 each plus all ancillary costs (nice thing is we don't have to pay a tire disposal fee). When it's all said and done, I'll be about $32 out-of-pocket. Not bad considering my Wilderness tires had just over 30K on them. After the first Firestone recall, I had Wrangle RTS tires put on my Mountaineer and they rode decently, but I've heard a lot of negative comments about Goodyears. Yes I realize Bridgestone owns Firestone, but the tires are worlds different...kinda like Mercedes owns Dodge, I'd drive a MB any day but wouldn't be caught dead in a Dodge. The Bridgestones are made in Japan while the Firestones are made here in the U.S.
