Hood deflector

Hood deflector
Well, I need a bug shield for the X. Dealer has one for $92.50-I understand why he still has it. Ford on-line is off-line. I thought of a Lund, but there are several styles. One owner suggested against it because it was to stiff and he was afraid of it breaking if he went through a car wash. So what's the consensus, what brand and where should I order from.
cheers

I thing the Lunds are the best brand out there, they are really rugged. I happen to have one, new in the box...It is clear, and ready to be painted any color you wish. All hardware and instructions, plus painting instructions included...

I'v got a Bugflector II. It fits great and looks great. I've got the smoke colored one. Don't do the Bugflector, make sure it the Bugflector II. II wraps around the corner and look sooo much better.
I got mine at Pep Boys for about $30-$40.
I had one on a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it was great. Didn't fit near as good as on the Expedition though.

I got the Ford bug deflector from the dealership. It fits great, and had held up extremely well. I believe I paid $50-60 for it. Yes, I would recommend it.

Ive gone with the clear Bugdeflector II on a previous vehicle. Worked great until a chunk of concrete hit it. I did find water collected in it and then aeriated down the side while driving in the morning. Thought I would drill drain holes in it:
TIP 1: Start with the smallest bit possible
and work your way up.
TIP 2: Don't do it on the vehicle, it earns
you the "Dumb ***" award and a nice
chip on the hood lip from impatient-
ice.
If you want to paint it, I saw on the "Blue Oval News" site of going to an auto paint store for a color match, and make sure they put in a "flex" additive to prevent peeling.

I agree with s76drvr. Although I don't have a problem with catching water in the one on my Expy, on my Grand Cherokee it did big time. I'd leave a car wash and 15 minutes later have soapy water spritzing my hood and windsheild. I drilled a couple of very small holes to drain. I did it on the car and had no problem; and I'm really impateint

You guys and your bug deflectors. I mean really how much more wind to you need to push. Figure it out guys. You've got a billion dollar manufacturer trying to design something shaped like plywood to cut through the wind. Then along comes some kids in high school shop class and designs something that disturbs the airflow so bad that even the bugs get confused. Ask every person you see who looks like he's cleaned out KMART and he'll admit that it all started with the bug deflector. It's a sippery slope guys.

MHMCGILL,
Believe it or not, the one reason I installed one within days of picking my Expy up was because I waited almost a year on my Grand Cherokee and it was too late.
I see you're from the Pacific Northwest. Not sure how the bug situation is up there, but down here bugs are bad, especailly in the spring when there's plenty of new acidy stuff for them to be eating. My Jeep had 2-3 spots on the front edge of the hood where bug squeezens ate into the paint surface.
So odd as it may seem, I bought one to deflect bugs.
If you dive from Texas accross to Florda, you'll find spray wands at rest stops just fo clean the bugs off cars. Especailly those damn little black Love bugs that get thick as a smoke cloud and leave the front of your car looking like it's grown hair.
By the way, I've had mine kicks rocks etc. just enough to keep them from a direct hit on the hood or windshield too.
And oh ya, I bought mine at a Pep Boys about 14 months ago and havn't been back since of course I've been fighting back the urge to run in a buy some of those plastic stick on mirrors, and maybe those cool magnifiers to stick on the back window, oh and one of those really neat double cup holder/map holder with the built in reading light that you can easily slip off the door and use as an emergency marker lights, oh oh and those chrome mud flaps and I can't forget the hot pink wipers that hold 12 blades with the neon flasher/euro-style wind defletor

hey you forgot about the door edge guards with the reflectors. You are right about our bugs. Not much for too long. So alot of people put them on for looks. Our neighbor just a got a new cherokee and had a smoke one put on because the front end was too white. go figure

IMO I think the bug shields look good and they have saved me from countless ships from rocks and etc. I have actually had two on my 97 F150, the first got cracked after a bad wind storm by a grape vine overhanging the side of the road ( stupid car brightlighted me and I did not see the thing hanging there. I am sure that the bug shield saved me from a nice big dent in my hood. They are well worth the money and so are the ventvisors

No one really expects to completely deflect parts of "mother nature" up and over the windshield. If you don't want to get ANY bugs on the windshield, try drafting 25 ft. off an 18 wheeler (although dodging bits of rubber as one of the "caps" off the trailer disintegrates makes life interesting).
