Lightning S/C on Exped

Lightning S/C on Exped
Will a Lightning S/C from 99-and up fit on a 98 Exped 5.4? What else will need to be done besides a new chip programed for it? Will if fit under the hood?

If you are talking about the chip, that is what I meant. I would have one burned for the Exped with the S/C. I belive it is the standard Eaton S/C for our size engines.

I'm not sure what just the SC from a Lightning would cost but you could probably go with something more specific and maybe a better performing SC. Like the Holley Thunder that installed on one of our 5.4 ltr. will make more power than a Lightning.
Another root type woudl be Mangnacharger.
Of course for the price of the Holley you could just about buy a crated L engine. It's not exactly the same as the regular 5.4 either. That would be another reason I'd think about another SC other than the one from an L.
I'm starting the investigative work and am really liking the Holley. Of course the part I haven't planned yet (the hardest part) is getting this by the wife.

Well this is my main reason for asking is that I might be coming accross one pretty cheap. Alot cheaper than any other S/C. Eaton only builds 4-5 S/C and this one it the one used for our size engine so I don't see why it would be so different from a lightning to an Exped.

If it's cheap enough it might be worth it. I think the only real difference in the L engine is the pistons and rods. Other than that, the heads are the same.

You will need larger injectors, larger fuel pump and certainly (as you mentioned) a completely custom tune via electronic engine management.
I'm sure it would "fit", and you should have room under the hood. The hoods are the same as the Lightning and I'm sure the motor mounts and k-members are the same, so engine height should be identical.
As has been stated the shortblock is slightly different. The biggest difference (from a tuning perspective) is that the L engine is 8.4:1 compression while the regular 2v 5.4 is ~9.4:1 CR, I believe. This means you cannot run the same amount of boost with a given supercharger. I'm sure the L engine is capable of handling more than the 8-10psi that is commonly seen, but slap that at a higher base CR engine and you'd really better have the proper tune.
Good luck with it!

Well decided not to get it, They got up to $300 on EBay and couldn't justify it at this time. Well I am trying to tell myself this. Anyway thanks for all the info guys. I will probably just go with a kit at some point and time or an L engine. Thanks again
