How do those 18"s ride on the Performance Package Expy?
Did the new wheel and tire combo lower the clearance any? Did you find that the new wheels and tire combo filled out the wheel well any more than the factory combo?
I have the 2000 version, but still have the factory 17's. I want to up grade but can't really make a decision.

Hi 2K1Expy,
Both mods look great! I recently had near the same exhaust work done (rounds not ovals) on my 2000.
For all you considering similar, here are some of my observations/opinions on this dual exhaust mod (as described by 2K1Expy, above):
Pluses:
* The huge beast feels more nimble in highway accelerations.
* The 5.4 now rrrrumbles and grrrrowls on command
(Kids: "Cool!" , Mrs.: "...").
* MPG (averages, w/full-time A/C use, 70% highway): Before: 13.5 (in 12 tank fill ups), w/dual exhaust: 14.5 (3 tanks). I think it would be even better, but my foot got heavier with the extra performance "kick".
Negative(?):
* There is a noticeable "drone" inside the expy's cavernous cabin at about 2100 rpm and above. For me, all in all not too bad , I've kinda gotten use to it in my daily commute and with radio/CD, but a long trip may be interesting. BTW: checked pipe hangers and they did have thick rubber isolators on them.
Question:
2K1Expy (& others), how is your interior sound w/dual exhaust running?
Thanks.

Expyproject,
Yes the drone definately kicks in right at 2100 RPM.... This sucker sure growls... I am getting used to it but a long trip may be too much. I am thinking of toning it down by switching to a 70 series muffler or perhaps something different. It sounds really sweet during acceleration but its sure does put out some noise. I too have noticed a marked improvement in initial acceleration and 1 mpg gain on the gas. This will be a work in progress I am sure. Any thoughts on the muffler???

2K1Expy,
Very intersting that we match in the observations and results of the dual exhaust mods. A quieter muffler should improve the situation, but the quieter the muffler, the more restrictive it would be to the exhaust system, which then begins to get further away from the "benefits" to begin with (power, aggressive sound on demand, mpg).
This mod as-is, is a keeper for me, since most of the time the beast is in commute mode anyway. As for that long trip and the drone, we'll just see/deal with that when we get there.
Besides, if I made any changes to it at this point, I'd sure miss that V8 "vrRRRoooomm".

Bingo!
My first catback, a Jardine 3" single exhaust, did the same for me at the same RPM range. Man, did that sucker growl when you got on the pedal! It was a lot of fun for awhile, but the long trips started to get on my nerves. So, it lasted for about 3-4 months, then I had to take it off.
I replaced it with a Gibson Swept Side single exhaust. What a difference! No interior drone at all. I only hear it around 1500 RPM, or when I stomp on it. Granted, it's not the same as the Jardine, but I have my sanity!
Another reason I pulled the Jardine 3" was because of the low-end torque loss. Since the OEM is 2&1/2", I figured the larger pipe was killing it. Do you experience any of this loss-end loss running duals?
BTW, the mod looks excellent!

I see you guys are still at it!, Moddin' your Expy's.
2K1-Man, that thing just keeps lookin' better and better! I tried to have duals put on my Expy, but the shop I took it to said there wasnt enough room around the spare tire to run duals. WTF? How did they do yours?
Ive been over at the Lightning boards lately since I got my 01 Lightning, so the Expy has taken a back seat to mods for a while.
Fixin' to start back on it though!
Take care fellas, yall got 'em lookin' good!
