Overall, that's about what mine is. I filled up last Wednesday and after 4 days of pulling the boat around including a trip to Possum Kingdom where it's a lot of secondary counrty roads and hills and pulling it back and forth to Lewisville (so stop and go) I ended up at 12.1 MPG. The boat started off at about 7200 pounds max and by the end of the weekend with water and fuel reduced was about 6800 pounds. That includes running the AC about half the time. I didn't think that was too bad!

I filled up last night and tonight I'm sitting on 17.2 MPG after one day back and forth to work. (635 was good to me both ways)

'98 EB 4X4 3.73 gear, I get 12 in city, and 16 hwy @ 70 and air on. No mods, YET!!

I have a 99 EB Expedition 5.4 with an Air raid filter charger kit. Borla cat back
It is depressing going to the gas station. I love the truck but the gas mileage is terrible. I wish Ford had put the swicth for 2WD
in the EB edition instead of AWD.
If you wanna play you gotta pay (at the pumps)

If I'm not mistakedn though, with the AWD, you only get drive the other wheels locking with there is detected spinning of the rear (rears if you have LS)

I don't think it's driving the front wheels unless the rear(s) aren't getting traction. Could be wrong.

You may get about 1 MPG better by runnning premium too. Of course the one thing I think is missing is the SuperChip.

Family Ride is right. It's A4WD, meaning automatic 4 wheel drive when rear tire slip is detected. Still worse gas mileage when compared to 2 wd's.

My 99 EB 4X4 has on rare occasions managed 19MPG. This was on a trip 99.9% highway driving, and fuel purchased outside of California. Around home, healthy mix of highway and city, it averages about 14. They are really sensitive to speed, under 70 they do much better, and they hate headwinds.

I am leaving for Florida Thursday morning. I will be back Tuesday. I will let everybody know if there was a gas mileage increase with all the mods. It will be cooler and probably will not use AC like on the other trips. That will have to be taken into consideration. I hope to get around 19 maybe 20 with no head winds.

Unhappy

How are some of you getting 17-18 mpg? My expy has the 5.4 and I have never got more than 13 on the highway. Never! I could get 15 maybe if I drove it off a cliff or dropped it from a helicopter!? I drive pretty easy to try and coax as much mileage out of her as possible but 17 or 18 on the highway.....Hmmmm.
I would love that.

Got to Florida from Dallas and got 17.4 mpg. I was only driving 70-72. I was hoping to get better but I really had 30 knot head winds the entire way. All flags were pointed staight at me the whole way. I will drive back on Monday and will let you know monday night. It was a 700 mile drive to get here.

pwr440, what state do you live in? I ask because here in So. California the gas we buy is so full of additives to 'clean up the air', resulting in poor mileage. I only get 13 to 14mpg average in town and hwy, unless I can buy gas out of state, for instance in Nevada, and I can get bewteen 17 and 19mpg with that fuel. The fuel you use makes a big difference, at least in my 99 EB 4X4.

Got back to Dallas from Destin FL. and got 17.8. I thought I could get better than that. I did not have any wind but I was running about 74-76mph to get back.

I get 13 around town and 16.5 on the highway doing 70/75mph. 5.4 4X4 3.73 LS.

Lightbulb Better milage

Heya.

I think one of the best ways I've found to conserve fuel in my expi is: (a) spending a little more on gasoline and buying Shell instead of that watered down Speedway crap, and more importantly (b) when leaving from intersections I just watch my tacometer and i don't let it go over 2000 RPM. I leave intersections more slowly, but I've found in city driving that's the only thing keeping the fuel economy really bad.

That is very true. For a whole tank full around town I was able to get a solid 15.5 mpg in mine but that was with people behind me waving their fist. It does not take hardly any pedal at all to get it moving. I have been trying to teach my wife to drive like this. I saw a gal the other day liturally floor her Gator to just move up one car link at a 4 way stop. I thought man, that was a half gallon right there to move 15 feet.

Unhappy fuel mieage

Hey everyone,
Back on the subject of my fuel economy (or lack thereof) I live in Wyoming and I use 91 or 92 Octane all the time. The truck runs fine with plenty of power and no driveability probs but I still get no better than 13. Like I said before I'm pretty light on the throttle and try to squeeze as much mpg out of a tank as possible. I've never gone more than 400 miles on a tank of gas.
