May buy an Expy tomorrow, 5.4L or 4.6L???
My wife and I are a pen stroke away from sealing a deal with an '01 expy. The local dealer is dumping their '01s and we can get invoice price with 0% interest for 60 months. My only concern is with the engine and tow package which combined cost about $1575.00 MSRP. I have a natural tendency to buy the 5.4L with the tow package because I know that an aftermarket tow system will be less effective than a factory installed system. Also, I think the resale value is better with a tow package and the big V-8 and changing ones mind after the sale is not an option. I am also another pen stroke away from ordering an '02 4x4 KR SCrew with the rear bench seat or a Lariat with FX4 OR package and all the bells and whistles with most definately 5.4L and tow package, hence the partiality mentioned earlier.
Any comments or questions on this would be greatly appreciated.

It depends...
If you have a family, then yes, go for the X.
If you have friends you haul around alot, go for the X
If you tow stuff (boat, jet ski's U-Hauls, etc) then go for the X
If you have a horse trailer, then go for the truck (you need a place to throw the saddles)
I love my 01 X-EB.

Thanks for the input G.Andrews.
I may not have been as clear as I wanted to be but maybe I was, let me know. We are going to buy two (2) new fords and the screw is for me and the X is for my wife. The wife does not want the extra expense for the 5.4L and the tow package but it will cost us about $23 a month for 60 months to get the extra options on the X. The screw is all mine to configure. I know that no one can tell me what is the best choice because everything depends on something. I just want to know what others have to say about the engine choices they have made and what they might do if they have the chance to buy new again.
Any additional comments are welcomed.

I'm envious, a new SuperCrew and Expedition!
I had a 99 Expedition XLT with the 4.6 and traded it for an 01 EB with the 5.4 in February. One of the reasons for getting the new Expedition was my disappointment with the power of the 4.6. We take long trips twice a year to visit my wifes family and we go over many mountain passes. The 4.6L engine had to work hard to keep the speed up. We've taken one trip with the 01/5.4L and it handled the hills much better and actually got better mileage. I like driving the new Expedition much better than the older one. The resale value should be better as well, when I was trying to sell the 99 Expedition quite a few people were looking for the bigger engine.

Thanks for taking the time to reply M. I am almost convinced to go with the 5.4L. Just need a couple more like this one and I will be sold. Hopefully I can hear something before lunch today so we can seal the deal tonight. Hey M, don't be too envious becasue the two payments are going to bury my D**K in the dirt in you know what I mean and most of my co-workers are going to think I sell drugs on the side but then again I don't have a chandellier in my house nor do I have a grand stair case. I like great cars and trucks and I always have, I guess once you get machines in your blood like me your hooked for life.

Get the 5.4L. The EXPY is a heavy vehicle and the 5.4L will make a difference. I have a 98 EB with the 5.4L and it handles the Colorado mountains quite well. I live in the mountains and make a trip to Denver once a week over mountain passes up to 10,000 feet and I get a little over 16 mpgs for the roundtrip. I think you like the extra power also.

Good choices!!!!
I bought a new '01 Expy in April. (EB 5.4 w/ tow) I like the Expy so much ... I purchased a new '01 SCREW 21 days ago. Lariat 4x4 ORP. Could not be happier in our choices. I did not look at the smaller engine. The 5.4L has no problem accelerating up hills in either vehicle. I had a Bronco years ago with a 302cu instead of the 351cu ... That taught me to go for the largest engine posible. That Bronco could not pass a VW van on hills.
The EB Expy 2WD has the rear leveling suspension and a SUPER all around drive. I am sold on Ford (Trucks).

Thanks for the replies screwfun and RED Y2K SPORT,
My wife decided this morning to wait on the EB X even with 0% for 60 months and at invoice price. That deal will never come around again unless the economy slides some more before we take the bait. She told me she is still not quite ready to part with her premo '99 V-6 Honda Accord with leather seats.
Our son just turned two and I wanted him and her to feel more safe in the bigger vehicle but she didn't want to spend a couple grand more for the bigger engine with the tow package so as of now X is on hold. When the '02s are available, she may get the fever again and maybe we can order a new one with exactly what we want and not what the dealer orders to fit the average buyer's needs.
Stay Cool guys,

daveman,
If it helps, since my 3 1/2 year old daughter was born, we've had 5 different cars: 2 Mercedes, a Jeep Grand Cherokee and currently we have a Volvo and the Expedition. Anywhere we go, my daughter insists on going in the Expy. She always told us she didn't like Mommy's Mercedes she only likes Daddy's Espeditchion. She says it clear now. She's loosening up with the Volvo some, but the Expy is like a rolling playground.

Thanks FamilyRide,
My son also cannot wait to ride in "DaDa's Tuck" each morning when I take him to daycare. He loves to put each one of his two feet on the backs of my captain's chairs arm rests to relax while we zip down the road.
Thanks for the reply. Oh yea, if you like to read then check out my latest post reply to what folks had prior to their screw's. It may take awhile to read but should create a ton of other folks memories of past cars and trucks or people will hate it.
