Navigator 2V and 4V heads?

are the heads on the navigators interchangeable.

if you had the 2V heads and wanted to put on the 4V heads on the 5.4 V8 would they go on with no problem.

would anything else have to be replaced?

Hi 2000,

Well, you also have a completely different intake setup between those 2 motors.

The DOHC motors have 6-bolt mains (that's not a typo, not 2-bolt, not 4-bolt, but 6-bolt mains, from a Jaguar design), head studs are used instead of head bolts, etc.

You would have to replace the intake manifold runner system as well, as the DOHC motors, including 4.6 & 5.4 variants, all use IMRC, which is a computer-controlled multi-stage intake runner system that is considerably different than the system used in the SOHC 5.4's.

However, don't despair, if you don't want to get into that kind of hardware swap, there are a number of things you can do to easily get your 5.4, in either 235 hp or 260 hp versions, up to the 300 hp level, of course the 235 hp versions take more work to get there, but it's certianly do-able. Or, you can always do an engine swap and drop in the later 300 hp DOHC of the 5.4, and then do more modifications to it, though you may not want to mess with all of that.

The Navigator has had 3 different versions of the 5.4; first the 235 hp SOHC variant in 1998, then the 260 hp SOHC version in early 1999 model year, and finally, the 300 hp DOHC version of the 5.4 motor. Any of those engines can be modified with bolt-ons to significantly enhance the performance, should you decied you don't feel like dealing with the headaches of a top-end motor swap or a complete engine swap, etc.

Even the lowest-power 235 hp 5.4 motors can take considerabld live a normal service life, driven sanely, so you have a number of options here for improving performance substantially.

Good luck with what you decide, & if you want to go over this in a bit more detail, perhaps see what can reasonably be done with what you already have, or whatever, feel free to give us a call.
