Diesel Expedition

Diesel Expedition
I have been reading and in some magazines there is speculation that in 2003 the Expedition will come out with a 4.5L Diesel engine.
I don't know if this is going to happen but I am ready.
This ought to improve mileage to a point where a person can take it somewhere without having to take out a bank loan everytime. This could be the last automobile I ever have to buy unless they do something unordinary with the diesel.
Love the expedition.

new diesel....Yeah Baby!!!
You are correct. The new V-6 "Baby" Powerstroke will generate
235 hp & 400 lb.ft. torque. This new engine will last forever, get
25 mpg (my est.) & pull a good size boat with ease. Looks like the
new Expy will be out in May. Don't know when we will be able to
buy it in a diesel. I want an 4x2 E.B. with a tow package.
This is the kind of innovative thinking that keeps Ford on top!

The new diesel is certainly a welcome addition to the powertrains
available from Ford. It is a vehicle you have to drive alot & keep
several years to pay for the engine. Ford, Dodge & GM all charge
around $4-$5,000 extra for their big diesels. This new mid-size diesel will be more, it's just a question of how much. I can pay
an extra $2,000. More than that will be a judgement call every-
one will have to make. Just do the math based on fuel cost for a
big V-8 versus............etc.
Diesels are taking over Europe in their cars & minivans. We drove around the French countryside in a rented Renault minivan with
a turbodiesel. It was fantastic! Must have gotten 35-40 mpg with
6 adults & lots of baggage.

Don't expect to see the "Baby PSD" come to fruition. Dig a little and you'll find that the "rumored" noise and/or vibration issue that supposedly delayed it from hitting '03's was suspisously timed right when some law suits emerged. I think at this point the rumored "Baby PSD" is but a memory.
I wouldn't doubt if something new pops up in the future, but not the near future.
