Buying Expedition...
Well, I want to buy an expedition. I am thinking about a 98 XLT. Anyone know what the big differences between the 98 and 2000 models are? From what I've seen, they go for around $10,000 right? Anything special I should look for when buying it? I am thinking Ebay, but I don't know how much I trust buying an SUV I haven't seen yet.

98 expi
Heya... I have a 98 Expi XLT. It's a solid truck. There are one or two small defects in the 98 Expi that were apparently ironed out by the 2002s. One is the switch that controls the washer fluid pump... i've had mine replaced under warranty 5 times. I've also had to tighten the wiperblade arm bolts several times because they come loose about once a year.
Mechanically speaking the two vehicles are very similar. The only difference on the outside is the front grille. After 1999, ford made the grille a little taller and took out a groove that ran in the middle of the grille through the ford oval.
As you can tell from the picture, she's a real looker still after 140,000 miles of trouble-free service.
Welcome to the Expi family.

There are several subtle differences and with the current preowned SUV market, you should be able to do great on one.
The big difference from 98 to 99+ is the 5.4 ltr. 97-98 were 230 HP, 99+ got PI (Performance Improved) heads and 260 HP, 350 lbs of torque. According to my dealer, the brakes were a problem on early ones as well mostly when towing. The were just to small so they made them much better.
There are many others but most are subtle.

Thanks for the info!
Thanks for the info! So I can get some high performance parts and replace the out of date ones and make it current, if not better, than the newer models right? As of right now, I don't know that much about cars or suvs, but I want to. I am thinking or buying some books and learning all about it so I can do most of the upgrades myself. I am also thinking of putting some custom made computerized decals on it.
