97 Expedition 4x2 -- Shopping new Rubber

Hello fellow owners. I have a 97 exp 4x2. I'm shopping for new tires. Any recommendations for a good street tire with a reasonable price? I don't have a problem ordering them if anyone knows a good tire shop online.

I currently have Goodyear Wrangler AP P255 70R16's

Also, my exp just hit 100,000 miles. Does anyone advise any replacements that aren't in the service manual that could extend the life of the vehicle?

Thanks!
Nick

I just had some Michelin Cross terrain's put on about a month ago. Drastic improvement over the Goodyear's. Much better handling and far less road noise.
Be prepared you may have to wait a week to get your local Michelin dealer to get them in for you.

Thumbs up Same here...

With the Ford factory tire recall, I replaced the Firestones with Michelin CrossTerrains. Here in the Mid-Atlantic, we get every kind of weather and the CrossTerrains have been great every time. They are a big improvement for my truck.

There are a number of us on this board running them.

Good luck with your selection...

Chock one more up for the Cross Terrains. Just had mine put on about 2 weeks ago. Even though the 275/60-17 are not real common, Discount had 2 in stock and got 2 more in one day.

Oh, I paid $148 each for them. I'm embarrassed to say I paid full pop but to be honest, I couldn't find anywhere, brick-n-mortar or online that had them for less. In 10-15 years I've ALWAYS, gotten great discounts by pitting, say Discount and NTB against each other in a pricing war. This time I had no ammo!

Ford replaced my firestones - with Michelin LTX M/S. At no cost it was a hell of a deal, but I would have paid to put them on when it was time anyway. These are 265/70/17's on a 4X4, and the difference is significant. They are quiet on the road, don't have the hydroplaning problem the firestones did, and run smoother.

Get some Yokohamas. I got some for $75 a piece. They retail for like $130. I got the AT+2. They came out not too long ago and are very good. They are imported directly from Japan. Very good tires when compared to my old Generals.

I have had my wifes 02 EB Expedition for 3 months and just put the Michelin Cross Terrain tires (H Rated)on last night. The OEM tires (General Grabber AW piece of crap) looked liked it had been on my truck for 2 years not 3 months. I found many splits and one 8" long gash on one tire. Spent $706 for tires and then had them balance them. All was said and done in 45 Min. Great ride so far. General wants me to send the 4 tires back to them to decide whether they will compensate me. They will probably send me 4 new tires! What a deal! I wanted to put the LTX M/S on but michelin dosen't make that size in that tire. I have found the michelins on my 2001 4X4 after 10,000 miles show almost no wear. They should put good tires on a truck of this price from the factory. Ryan

I finally get my Michelin Cross Terrains on Friday. Had to go to another dealership to get them replaced on Ford's dime. Our local dealer wanted to put on BFG's only. Nothing against the BFG's, it's just I'm a Michelin fan.

I'm really glad to hear you guys like the Michelin Cross Terrains , They are great tires. It's been a tough year in the tire markets with the econamy in a slump . I make tires for Michelin (tires for big rigs) and I can assure you that quality is the number 1 priority, yes you have to pay top dollar for it , but you get what you pay for ! Michelin makes tires for the Space Shuttle, the Concord (after the accident) dozens of Military Aircraft , the largest Earth Mover Tires, every car, truck ,motorcycle, & bicycle ... even that segeway human transporter thingy! I've worked for them over 15 years now , I've put together thousands and thousands of tires and I even worked at Michelin Retread for a year and a half and I can tell you without a doubt that not all tires are made to such standards! I'm proud to be part of this company , but the swing shifts are KILLING ME

By the way , you should start seeing the new Michelin commercials this week with the Michelin Man ... no more baby commercials , although they were cute...

I wonder if I could arrange a group purchase for all my F150online friends ? ... hummmmmm wonder who I would ask ?

I love my Dueler AT's. Have 70,000 kms on them with TONS of meat left. Great in rain and snow, quiet, nice ride.
