Question Dome light lotto

I have a 97Expy.4x4EB and it seems my pin switch on my driver door is geeting stuck 50% of the time.It always seems to happen at night, which makes it fun to back up especially with tinted windows. After a forward speed of 15mph the lights go off as they should but the door ajar light stays on and the auto door locks do not engage for about a block.Anyone have this problem? If so how did you fix it and whats the price?

Red face

I have not noticed the interior lighting, but my door locks tend to lock sometimes 1 or 2 blocks away from my take off point. One time I heard them lock 1/2 way through a red light cycle. I will have to watch the interior lights to see if they are staying on from time to time. I have not noticed it at night though.

I have had the same lighting problem with the interior lights staying on when they should be off. The actual switches for the interior lights are in the door latch assembly on the outer end of the door.

The sticking switch syndrome will work correctly if you blow compressed air in and around the latch assembly then spray some lubricant (such as WD-40) in the latch assy.

I'll usually have to do this about once a year, but so far it's allways fixed the problem.

Cool

I have the same problem. I can't figure out what door it is. I would assume it is the drivers.

Ditto . . . .

I would have to say the same . . .the driver's door is opened and closed 20 times to 1 for every other door on my X. That is additional wear on the single switch.

this is quite common with F-150's and SuperDuty's. I don't 100% agree with WD-40 (as it is NOT a lubricant) but it will do the trick (as mentioned in previous posts). This will not guarantee that it will not happen again, but it beats going to the dealer for a new switch.

I had a ton of build-up on the switch. I cleaned it and relubed. Problem solved (for now).

....

It is a problem with the relay switch in the door. Its drying out. The WD-40 is working for everyone so far. However, BEWARE...if you take it to the dealer they will tell you diagnostics checked out fine on the door switches and the GEM. but lets replace the GEM as its their best educated GUESS. A $540.00 guess. Good luck to everyone. This seems to be a problem for lots of F-150 and Expedition owners for the 97' model.
