Rear wiper motor failed

Well I heard it here first, that there was a problem with the rear motor on the wiper. I am under warranty and it failed, tried the turn it on and try to help it, but it is not working. I put it in the shop on 3/7 and will try to report back on how the repair goes

I had to do the same thing when I had my 2000 Expy. It would only work intermitently then finally just failed out of the blue.

How difficult is it to change the rear wiper motor yourself? Mine has gone out also but I'm not sure yet if my extended warranty will cover it.

I took mine in under warranty. Dealer said he tapped it and it started working. Dealer said that it would fail again, so he replaced the motor.

Does not look like it would be a hard job. probably a 1 1/2 hour job that turns into 8hours.

LOL That sounds like a typical job that I attempt to do.

I'm experiencing the exact same problems with my 99... What happens to me is my wife(or I guess It could be me, but it's always better toblame on the ole wife..)will accidently turn the rear wiper on. A week later I'll be driving down the road, hit a bump, and all of a sudden get startled by the sound of the wiper miraculously working again.... By the way, it's currently not working.... It will probably start working next time I close the rear hatch!!

mine as well

I was going to post this question as well. apparently mine is out too. I kind hoped it was a relay or something "plug-n-play". guess not. I'll be looking into the home repair option.

I had a 1998 Explorer prior to buying my KR SuperCrew. EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I think we've exploited a problem that Ford has on some of their SUV's. I've talked with other Explorer owners concerning this problem and yes, they've had the same problems.

The Explorer, the Expedition... both with rear glass wiper problems.... I think we're seeing a trend...

Same Issue with a 2001 Exy.

My Exy is a 2001 and I have had the same issue. Mine would work for awhile, then stop. Finally it quit and I took it in to the dealership. They replaced under warranty and have had no issues since.

Although there was the time last week that I was stuck on the side of the road for 6 hours untill Ford could come get me because ALL of my wipers quit working in a HUGE downpour in Dallas. But that is a story for another post.

What's the chances of a future recall?? It's QUITE evident that there is a problem with these motors...... It's something I would definitely like to have fixed, but am not about to pay $200 or so to have it fixed..

rear wiper motor

guys,

I went into this today. if I had the part in hand it would have been less than an hour to do the whole thing. remove the handle, snap off the cover - it slides up over the window latching mechanism. remove the plastic vapor barrier and three screws hold in the wiper motor mount, remove them then two screws take off the motor. O'reilly claims to stock them but did not have them in. $70 at o'reilly, $90 at the dealer.
