Is there a lawsuit here? Got burned today while driving
Long story here.. need to explain myself first..
i just made a Semi-pro baseball team in Memphis about 2 weeks ago and we start playing in May.
well i went ahead and bought new cletes so i could get them broke in before the season starts..
well they had a tag on them and i wanted it off but did not want to rip it out....
i pushed in my cigarette lighter, this is the first time i have used it.i am not a smoker and i dont let people smoke in my car.
anyway here i am driving down the road waiting for it to pop when i hear the pop and it lands in my lap.
i burned my finger on it when i hit it off and have no idea how i kept from having a wreck...i was sreving trying to get it off the floor...
well i got home and tried it again, and again it flew out,
i check it periodically now and it flies out everytime...
is this happening to anyone else.
i am thinking of filing a Reliability of Products Lawsuit on Lincoln for this one....
the dealer refuses to look at it without paying $74.00...
so if they dont want to help what else should i do..
im not the type of person that just sues to get money..
i would like my ligther fixed. this is a serious problem. it could catch the carpet on fire if you couldnt get it up in time....

Are you sure your putting it in the right hole. The accessory hole is a different diameter than the lighter hole.
Oh, forget the lawsuit. That's the problem with our country today, sue, sue, sue.
If you are using the right hole try the lighter from the Expy I see in the backround of your picture.

Pop Fly Lighter
Stupid question, but, do you have two holes behind your flip-down lighter cover? If so, the one on the left should be for the lighter. However, I agree that the lighter popping out and clearing the socket is a possible hazard. For litigations sake, you must prove that the design of the lighter and its operation poses a significant risk. Also, you must show that Ford had knowledge that such an occurrence was possible. I doubt very seriously that Ford would allow such a design flaw to occur after so many years of that design in production. Try videotaping the operation showing the lighter clearing the housing and see if there's a very hungry attorney willing to tackle it.

im not planning on suing them for money.. i just want it fixed and they are refusing to help me...
i guess i could just buy a new ligther...
i am too busy to even worry about a lawsuit..
if i wanted one i could easily sue my HighSchool for what happened my senior year.
i actually have 1 more month to do it...i pressed charges and wrote a formal statement last may and you have up to 1 year to follow through on it...
but i dont think that suing someone solves anything...
im not going to post what happened at school unless you are interested so if so let me know..
its actually a good story and many of you with kids in school would probably like to hear it cause more than likely this happens more than you would like to think...

Lincoln figures there might be someone in the backseat smoking so they put enough on the 'throw' to get it 'home'. Anyone riding in the front seat is considered the 'cut off man' so, unless you're sure you can make a play at second, keep your mitt off of it.

Steven, don't feel bad, mine does the exact same thing on my 2000 Expy. I was driving down the road one day, got bored while sitting in traffic, pushed in the lighter and, as Emeril says "BAM" out came the lighter. It bounced off my knee (since we're talking baseball, I guess I booted it) and on to my floorboard. You can imaging the ensuing scramble to find this glowing hot projectile on my carpet. When I got home I tried it several more times, each with the same result.
I haven't had my vehicle at a dealership since I learned about this, but I sincerely think Ford would be interested in knowing about the problem. It could ultimately save them multiple millions in the event somebody burns to death or is maimed/killed in an accident while trying to locate the element on their floor.
