Unhappy Plastic Body piece Bent??? or Car Ding?

hey,

I was parked in a parking lot today and when I got back to my truck, a navigator, I opened the front Driver side door. however, when I opened it, I heard a "creaking" sound, and felt some resistance on the door. I quickly shut it and when i did, i noticed that the plastic upper corner on the bottom Plastic body piece on the Driver door was bent up, and when i shut the door, it was catching on the body and bending. I might have to post a pic to explain what i mean, but I am just not sure if I was door dinged, or if maybe being parked in the sun caused the plastic to melt or become unstuck from the body. Anyways, Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what i should do to fix it... Do i need to just take it into a body shop and have them order a new piece? I thought maybe that'd just be so expensive....?

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Jon

Hey Jon,

How have you been? I assume that you are talking about the lower molding on the door that is two tone and integrates with the running board. If so, then the piece can be purchased at a Ford dealer or Ford Parts Online for a little over $100.00. The beauty of it is, is that it comes painted from the factory, so it should be a do it yourself project. I'm not sure how the panel pops off, but a body shop could probably advise you on how to do that. The main thing to me, is to try and find out what caused it. Heat shouldn't be a factor, but maybe somebody hit it with a door and caused it to pop out a little bit. Good luck.

Hey Navi Man,

Thanks for the reply. Are you talking about the upper grey part that matches the side steps? I wasn't exactly sure if we were referring to the same thing, but we may be. I will try to take some pics and post them. I will most likely order it from the body shop and see if they think that it was a door ding. In that case, I would file under vandalism and pay the deductable. Thanks again for the help.

BTW.. I haven't forgot about the Drop kit yet. I am working on a job to get the extra cash that I need. Then rims and the kit at the same time.

I'll post THOSE pics... promise... Just give me a few more weeks...

C ya later!

Jon
