6L PSD vs 7.3L PSD
Hi All, I have a 01 Screw which I think I might trade in on a
new F250 PSD. My question is the dealers in my area are
giving huge discounts on remaining F250/350 with the 7.3
PSD...Like 9-10K off MSRP...Is it worth getting this type of
savings vs buying the new 6L PSD...They are not dealing
on the new F250/350 with the new 6L PSD.
I've read the new 6L puts out 325HP/560TQ...what does
the current 7.3L PSD rated at ?..I understand the new PSD
also is available with a new HD 5 sp auto trans...Is it worth
spending close to MSRP and get the new PSD and trans ?
Thanks,TMeyers-Colorado

Hi TMeyers
11/03...7.3L PSD 275@2800rpm m/t tq..520@1600
250@2600 " a/t tq..525@ "
Yes....6L 325hp@3300rpm tq...560@2000rpm
I know what you mean. In my case i could have gotten a 03 production 7.3L for ALOT less than new 6.L... and a few remaining 02 for really big $$$ off..but checking around i could not find what i wanted, as this is my last planned truck. Mine was a factory order.
My first diesel..6L a/t...so no real world experience to speak of...but know it will more than handle my combo.tow/haul 5500#..with room to upgrade. However talked to lots of gas/diesel truckers this past yr. Lots of good info. Ford/GM/Dodge. Interesting. Plus dieselstop and other sites.
So...just be aware of potential problems w/the 6L. I knew about it..but still wanted/bought the 6L w/at Is it worth the price?..only time will tell...lots of opinions on that one. Having said that..i really like my new truck. Whats that old saying "try it/you'll like it"
Go drive them. Compare. You gotta go with whats right for you.
Production yr. starting to wind down...deals maybe coming on 6L, maybe not? Great deals today on remaining 7.3L..you betcha!
Good luck...OT

As much as I LOVE my 6.0L, if I could save 10K off MSRP and get a truck that I liked (as far as color and options) I would have jumped all over it! The 7.3 is a terrific motor and if you put a Superchips microtuner program in it you jump right up near the 6.0L.
The problem was that when I went to buy my truck, all the 7.3s were gone within my reasonable driving distance (Since I like to use my buying dealership for service. I think you get better service if you bought the truck there..) Heck, I had to go 3 cities away to find a diesel at all!
