Question Black exhaust "soot"

Hi

My first diesel truck. Havent noticed it blowing out when driving..but did find black exhaust "soot"? on driveway. When i noticed it, was dry..not wet..but looked like it dripped/blew out pipe.

I have a feeling it was from a cold start..but not sure?

Is this common on diesel engines?

Tks. for any info. OT

Could be condensation from the exhaust system, when cold they all run rich and usually run black...when first satrted they blow out the condensation which is usually soot contaminated...

Timer, that is what I do for a hobby..You would not believe the power these things make...

Look at where your exhaust is and then start a cold motor, and watch...either its condensation, or I would think just normal soot..

My right back hubcap requires cleaning after every 'run'...
