5.4 3 valve in the F250?

Anyone heard, seen or smelled anywhere when the current 5.4 liter gets retired from the F250 in favor of the new 5.4 3 valve (the one going into the 04 F150)?

My guess would be '05 or '06 since we haven't heard about it in the '04s yet. Somewhere I read that the next redesign of the SDs will share the same platform as the '04 F150 so a good guess would be the 3V engines would show up when the redesign is made.

I hear it is the old 5.4 to be in the new 04 250 my question is why why why? is it that hard to switch out an engine or are they committed to purchases so many of the old?

It probably has to do with manufaturing issues. They had to retool 1 plant to build enough 3V engines for the '04 F150s while still producing 2V engines for the remainder of the '03 F150s plus all the Super Duties. Don't forget the "classic" F150 for '04 if they are still going to do that. Once the '04s are ramped up and they can produce enough of the new engines to support the SDs, too. They could do a mid-year engine change like they did with the new 6.0L PSD, too. The new engines don't just show up out of no where, plants need to be properly retooled to produce them. If they shut down all the engine plants that make the 5.4 all at once, they would either have to build a lot of surplus to cover the down time, or be without the 5.4L for a month or so until all the plants are up and running.
