Good Price??

I think I came upon an amazing dealership. I live in Western New York and there is a huge Ford dealer out this way. I have heard from other people about the great deals they are offering. I decided to call them about a brand new 2003 F-250 Super Duty. It is a sweet truck. It is a reg. cab, 4x4, automatic, 5.4, FX4, LT265 All Terrain tires, Limited Slip, keyless entry, cab steps, aluminum wheels etc. Basically the sticker price on the truck is $31,685. They told me I could have it for $24,600 including rebates! I did some research and they are selling it at invoice minus holdback! I have had dealers take off some holdback, but never this much! And I know people who have bought from this dealer and there are no surprises. The only thing i'm a little concerned about is the 5.4 engine. Will this be enough power for a truck this big? I don't tow too much. Occasionally a 7,000lb. trailer or a small sailboat. I just don't want it to feel like too much of a dog when it's unloaded. I would like to hear from any other 5.4 owners. Also gas mileage. I'm coming from an F-150 with the 5.4, how much difference in gas mileage with these two trucks? Thanks!

I've got a 2002 F-250 SD - Crew-Cab Long Bed, 4x4, 5.4L, 3.73LS. I've got 11,000 miles since last March. The average is about 12.25 mpg. I just did a long trip from NJ to Williamsburg, VA, got 14.25 down and 15.25 back. I think you'd be fine with the 5.8L. George K

I would'nt get the 5.4L in the SD. If you hook up 7K it will be working very hard.

Hi

I also agree w/Bikenut. So..think it thru carefully.

Yes..nice truck for price your quoted. Sure is tempting..however..
Someone here once said "better to be overpowered and not need it...then to need it and not have it"

Good luck on what ever you decide.

OT

btw...go test drive um all...even better if you can test tow..thats a toughie i know, but at least solo test for sure! Dont forget..right after the 5.4L..try V10..then only one left to try.

I'll go ahead and chime in here. As a former owner of a 5.4 in the SD ('00 Supercab, 4x4, short bed, auto, 3.73LS) I can relate my experiences to you. As far as mileage goes, I typically got about 13.5 mpg in mixed city/highway driving. On the rare instance where I had a full tank of highway driving, it increased to about 15 mpg, with a best tank of 16.1 mpg. Towing about 3K lbs, my mileage dropped to about 11 or 12 mpg. You may notice from my sig when I replaced the '00 I upgraded to the V10. There were a couple of reasons for that. Since I was going to a crew cab, I felt like the extra oomph of the V10 would be a nice addition. I also had thoughts of upgrading to a larger travel trailer, so I wanted the increased towing capacity that the V10 offers. Also, at only a $600 list option price, it didn't make sense not to get it. All of those factors combined made it a no-brainer for me.

As far as your deal goes - that is a smoking price. Will it be a dog unloaded? No - not at all. Will the 5.4 tow 7k lbs? Yes, it will. Will you be happy towing 7K lbs behind the 5.4? Personally, I wouldn't be. Of course, I like to have some cushion in the manufacturers recommended towing capacities, and that wouldn't leave you much at all. You might see how much of a deal they will make you on a V10.

JD's back!!!! Yeah!!!

That is a good price and we all agree its the right kind of truck a Super Duty!!!

IMHO--you are pushing the window with the 7000lbs towing...

The 10 would be better suited for that load...

I wasn't able to live with the power or gas milage of the 5.4 in the 00 F150 4x4 i had i cannot imagine it in a F250.
Just my opinion though.

invoice at 12.5% of MSRP would be 27.7K minus 2500 rebate for about 25K so sounds like a regular deal you'll get just about anywhere right now.

I got similar discounts right off the bat prior to any haggling - just for asking over the internet from two dealers here. So you figure if you haggle you can get em' lower by maybe another couple points.

To me it would depend on how fresh the truck is. Find out when it was manufactured. 90 days is getting stale sitting there baking in the sun.

As for me, I wouldn't dream of towing 7000# with 5.4. Diesel equals === towing headroom. You didn't mention the gear ratio and if your 7000# is a boat?

With the hills in New York, I'd go with the larger engine.
