Great Mileage

After doing the zoodad mod and dropping in a K&N, I am getting about 13.7 MPG now. That is driving to and from work 95 miles total, with half of it freeway. It is done while enjoying the power of the V-10, no old man driving here. Computed by hand at every fill up. Gotta love this thing. To think I was getting 15-16 maybe 17 once in a great while with my little V-6 regular cab.

Zoodad mod, I thought that was a mod for the diesels only, glad it worked for you...I did my own cool-air induction package way before the zoo-dad mod...Got a sheet metal scoop in front of the a/c condensor, first thing to get air is the engine!!! Works great!!! Wrapped the intake hoses and sealed the intake system...It works good...

Nope it works for all vehicles. I had done the poorman's intake on my F-150 and it seemed to give me "seat o the pants" pick up but nothing on mileage. So I don't think I will do that on the 250.

A scoop on the end of the snorkel works real good for grabbing fresh air, first thing to get air in mine is the engine...

Hey, who says that the free easy way is not the best way as well...

3/4 of my mods are self-inflicted...and they add up and make the difference in a race...

I can respect someone with enough creativity to mod things...

thats what these forums are for...Be Good...

What it is, is cutting holes or a large hole in the grill section from where the snorkel is fed air from. Pull the actual grill off and then drill some holes in the plastic frame piece. This allows a greater amount of cold air to be directly fed to the snorkel. I did a bunch of small holes so that I wouldn't be sucking all the bugs up as I motor on down the road. I will get some pics up for you by tomorrow if no one else comes by with some. Very easy, cheap.

Got home a little late to grab some pics so here is another members website that has some good details on how he did this.
Mach 1 will recgonize this one.
On mine I went with 6-8 smaller holes vs the way this one was done. I haven't as yet added the piping to force the air up into the filter directly, that will be next.

Hope this helps

Question

That's interesting...I might try it.

Any increased danger of getting some water in the air filter housing if you are driving maybe on the highway and it starts raining hard?

I haven't seen any and have driven in some heavy downpours. I also read that everyone else who has done this was concerned as well and have not seen any water getting into their filter becuase of this. You can always add some screen material in behind the grill, that also helps protect the radiator fins from bugs and small rock damage.

Heres some tips, place a screen over the hole to catch the bugs/foriegn objects...

Use a scoop if you want some serious air added to the engine...Cool air induction package ala cheap...

I have a scoop in front of the condensor, first thing to get cold air is the engine...

One big deal, Be very careful of water ingestion...

I have driven mine in terntial downpours, so I know what it can handle...

Good Luck...
