Door Ajar???

Hello all, new member here and I have a question that I'm hoping you can help me with.
I have a 2001 F-350 and recently the Door Ajar light on the dash (along with the annoying alarm and the dome light staying on until it times out) has started staying on intermittently. I have been told that this is a switch that is internal to the door (part of the door latch) and is a real PITA to replace. I have an extended warranty on the truck with a $50 deductible. Cheaper to replace it myself or pay the deductible and hope the wrench monkies at the local dealership can do it right the first time????
Thanks.

Sounds more like a sensor to me... hard to say on costs though.

door ajar

I think this is a typical problem on the f150's too. the switch is in the latch assm. of the door. I have had to spray mine with a quality lubricant a couple of times to cure the same problem. Even after I lubed it took a couple of cycles (open/close-open/close) to start working again. Use a good quality lube-not WD-40-and you shouldn't have to repalce the switch

good luck, conner

I used WD-40 just one time on my '97 and it worked fine for over a year
