F-250 vs Chevy2500HD

The other day some poor Chevy driver parked his brand new crewcab 2500 next to mine. I wish I had my camera. His was a 4x4 as well and mine dwarfed his truck. I don't have a lift or anything. I felt bad for the guy. I would have found another parking space if it were the other way around.
Size Does Matter !!!!!

I like Chevys, especially their 1/2 tons. I owned a 1500 Z71 for a few years and it was a fine truck. But one thing I disliked about them is the low ride height.

I also can't stand the way the frame rails hang below the body on the 2500HDs. Superduties aren't perfect but no one in any other stock pickup looks down at me. I also like the fact I can drive up over a steep 3ft tall bank without grounding the frame.

Thats why they are called Super Duty..

The chevy's are weak framed and suspension, with too-much car ride qualities...

Superduty's problem

my only problem with my superduty is that it rides...too high... i know your thinking.. too high? your crazy.. but i just bought a brand new 28' coachman fifth wheel and have adjusted the hitch pin and receiver as much as possible. and it still makes the trailer go down the road with the nose in the air. I know there's a TSB about this for early 99 superduty's, but when i called the local dealership, they said because it's out of warranty, it will cost me $951 to lower it the 2 inches as described in the TSB...

So i'll have to live with it. Other then that, i like my superduty alot. just wish it was a crew cab instead of a supercab, and had the newer V10 with a little more power instead of the 99 V10, and wish i had the 430 gear instead of the 373. *oh, and i wish the Limited slip would actually make slipping limited. * lol other then that, it's a good heavy duty truck.

You know what's real funny is to watch those so-called hd's at a sled pull! Front tires try to kiss each other! Must be a bow-tie thing!

I would never get a bowtie...but I must admit I towed a 14,000# boat in a 2500 crew cab with the duramax/allison combo and it was nothing less than spectacular.

But in the essence of this thread, the look of those chevys are certainly not as heavy duty as the Fords. It is always nice to pull up at a light and look down on the chevy guys!

If you think the Duramax/Allison is great, judging from the reviews of the new Ford 6.0L and new transmission, it kicks the Chevy's butt. Unbelievably so!

"Weak framed"

MACH1 wrote "The chevy's are weak framed"

MACh, I have read many of your posts and respect what you say but take exception with this. I've owned both and though I like Ford better, Chevrolet has its own strengths. I don't see how you call Chevy weak framed when it has a stiffer hydroformed frame and the F250 still uses the older stamped steel members.

I'd bet that F250 will be stiffer when they do the redesign but right now Dodge and Chevy both have stiffer frames inherent to the hydroformed beams/members used in parts of their frames.

So what do you mean by "weak framed"?

Ketch the reading I have done are are such and correct me if wrong, the weight diff between the two are the SD by at least 1000lbs. where do you think some of this weight diff is??? the SD has a forged frame c section, at first there was a process problem with the hydrofroming fractureing...Look at the frames on the chevy, you can see them bowing in the middle...Read the TSB's for the frame problems...

Are you sure that Dodge uses a hydro-formed frame, being it is a box section frame???

I believe that the 250's are seeing how this hydroforming goes before the change over, the new 150's will be using it...

I would like to see some more data on them, I know this it is tough to beat frame Mass, when it comes to strength...Did I mention that a customer of mine loads 30000 on his SD gooseneck??? I have yet to see a Chevy with that type of load..May just be me...

ON the Dodge...a couple of reviews where I've seen this discussed plus the Dodge home page states "extensively hydroformed, stiffest frame available" so they braggin bout it.

The Fords frame is one of the gain to fame of the truck..I was to understand this...

Did you address the stress fracturing of the process and all the TSB's on the chevy, when did Dodge go to it, this year???

Where is Ford hiding all that extra weight???

I have worked on several of these trucks,(all, including clutches, transmission replacement, exhausts...)

Stamped or forged???

You bring some valid points, I ask how can we compare???

I dont know if hydroforming makes the strongest frame???

Someone just jump in here and set us straight...
